Is it possible to reboot and still connect to the domain? up vote 0 down vote favorite I have tried to setup Samba File nt_status_domain_controller_not_found winbind Server with AD authentication. The authentication via Active Directory is successful but if you reboot the server the linux Samba file server will NOT join the domain automatically like windows server do. You still have to manually join the domain by issue the below command line with user password: net join ads -U username -S DOMAIN.COM Is there a way to automate this? I know I can put a init scripts but the user password will change every 3 months and I don't want to change the scripts every 3 months. I am looking for something like a windows file server in which after reboot it will still be connected to the domain without any login credential requirements. Here are my configuration file: cat /etc/samba/smb.conf #======================= Global Settings ===================================== [global] workgroup = MYDOMAIN netbios name = host_name realm = DOMAIN.COM password server = dc01.domain.com security = ads idmap uid = 100000-200000 idmap gid = 100000-200000 template homedir = /home/%U template shell = /bin/nologin winbind use default domain = yes

Description Jonathan Kamens 2005-06-01 16:27:27 UTC When smbd is used in an environment with no https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2763 domain controller, it generates this syslog message upon startup: nt_printing_init: error checking published printers: WERR_ACCESS_DENIED This isn't actually an error condition, so no error should be logged. I will attach a patch. Comment 1 Jonathan Kamens 2005-06-01 16:27:49 UTC Created attachment 1254 [details] patch to disable unnecessary error message when no DC Comment 2 Gerald (Jerry) Carter 2005-07-15 10:52:51 UTC I don't understand. The call is bracketd in if ( lp_security() == SEC_ADS ) { win_rc = check_published_printers(); if (!W_ERROR_IS_OK(win_rc)) DEBUG(0, ("nt_printing_init: error checking published printers: %s\n", dos_errstr(win_rc))); } so if there are no domain controllers, what is the point of running 'security = ads'? Comment 3 Jonathan Kamens 2005-07-15 11:05:59 UTC I don't understand your question. Can you ask it again with a bit more detail? Comment 4 Gerald (Jerry) Carter 2005-08-12 12:41:45 UTC I guess my original question was related to the fact there are no domain controllers. I assume that this is really a problem in the environment. Because running 'security = ads' with no DC's available ever would just not make sense. The call to check_published_printers() is only made when 'security = ads'. Sorry for being dense here, but is seems to me that this is a

All of the ones I've found are for previous versions and have a note on them saying they need to be updated for the current version. They also don't seem to work with the the version I have. Most of the problems I'm seeing seem to be centered around LDAP. So if there is something on setting up LDAP for active directories that would also be appreciated. As it turns out I managed to log into the shell - if I leave the OF sitting for half an hour after boot it eventually lets me in. Strange.
