Perhaps an openssl specific dependency issue? Owner jpetazzo commented Apr 13, 2012 Yes, that's very weird. I just tested with the PostgreSQL 9.1.3 client shipped by Debian, and it works fine. Are you sure that you used the right port? You can obtain exactly the same error message if you try to connect to the SSH port instead of the SQL port. bwship commented May 30, 2013 @jpetazzo - I had the same issue, and was using the ssh port instead of the sql port. Thanks for the answer. TeddyMwas001 commented Mar 23, 2015 We had the same problem "psycopg2.OperationalError: SSL error: wrong version number expected authentication request from server, but received S" and this really helped. We were using the SSH port instead of the Postgres port. thank guys Sign up for free to join this conversation on GitHub. Already have an account? The database is up and running. http://postgresql.nabble.com/Error-Message-SSL-error-wrong-version-number-td2192377.html I get the message: Error connecting to the server: SSL error: wrong version number. I also am not sure what (if anything) to put in the Service field of the Add Server window. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this and connect to the database?
