Error During Backup Initialization
CRC error Windows Home Server > Windows Home Server Software Question 0 Sign in to vote I have problems backing up a laptop to my Home Server for the last few weeks. I've tried several options, but nothing worked so far. The problems started after updating the Home server with Power Pack 1. My other PCs backups work fine with the WHS. The problem is that a backup (auto or manual) stops after 12% and than tells me an error has occured and that I should check the discs with 'chkdsk /f /s'. Of course I've did this many times. Also checked the WHS discs with chkdsk and checked and repaired the backups. Checked many things, but can find a clue to fix it.The only change I've seen, is that since I've defragged the C: disc on the laptop the backup fails after 12% instead of 11%, which it was before.I've included specs and eventlog snippet for WHS and Laptop (laptop has Dutch XP version). Any help is greatly appreciated.Laptop specs:Windows XP MCE version 2002 SP3 - DutchPentium M 2GHz, 1GB RAMWD 250GB Pata disc, 2 paritions (C:127GB, E:105GB)Home server:Windows Home Server with Power Pack 1Tranquil PC, VIA C7 1.5GHz, 1GB RAMWD 500GB Sata discWindows Home Server Console: 6.0.1800.0Windows Home Server Backup & Restore: 6.0.1800.0Windows Home Server Drive Extender: 6.0.1800.0Windows Home Server Remote Access: 6.0.1800.0Windows Home Server Storage Manager: 6.0.1800.0Event log IDs Code Snippet LAPTOP EVENT LOG Type gebeurtenis: FoutBron van gebeurtenis: HomeServerCategorie van gebeurtenis: HomeBackupGebeurtenis-ID: 773Datum: 3-8-2008Tijd: 13:41:21Gebruiker:

She has gotten the message on three attempts, and it starts after she puts in the second DVD. She even bought brand new DVD-RW's and still has the problem. May I have her email you her logs to see if you can determine the problem/solution. If so, please respond to me so I can walk her through it. There you can select settings like -rescue which should keep on copying even when there are bad sectors. The problem is that the errors will be in the copy too, so after having done that initial clone, run the HD manufacturer's diagnostic utility on the original disk. it may offer to repair bad blocks it finds. If that is the case, and a further diagnostic after that shows no errors, run chkdsk /f /r again, and after that try using DriveImage XML again. http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/doc/03_Disk_to_disk_clone/advanced/05-advanced-param.php 0 LVL 46 Overall: Level 46 Storage 29 Storage Hardware 23 Storage Software 14 Message Active today Assisted Solution by:dlethe2014-04-26 Clonezilla is a great tool, and the price is right. But understand that it is a one-way trip. Professional data recovery done in a lab with specialized hardware/software will likely get 100% of the data back, or 99.9%. Clonezilla does put hardware at risk, because once a HDD maps a block as unreadable then professional recovery can't get that chunk back. Clonezilla does not also monitor or look at the hardware health. It is gentle, but your HDD is certainly on borrowed time and for all you know a head crash is
