Hi gurus, I hope you can help me to figure out where the spf include problem with my SPF is, it seems to be correct to me. Even vast majority of SPF testing tools tells me it's correct, but there are few that show SOFTFAIL. I wouldn't worry me too much if every email sent to hotmail.com didn't show on top small warning: "The sender of this message, [emailprotected], could not be verified by Sender ID. Learn more about Sender ID." - IP of get-gifts-for-free.com domain is on 209.59.181.165 - All emails is sent from 209.59.181.105 and headers say (HELLO host.motylonline.com) which is fine, 209.59.181.105 is base IP of this server and hostname is set to host.motylonline.com - Reverse DNS for 209.59.181.105 is set to ns1.motylonline.com - The SPF record for get-gifts-for-free.com is: "v=spf1 a mx mx:mail.get-gifts-for-free.com mx:get-gifts-for-free.com mx:host.motylonline.com mx:ns1.motylonline.com ptr:ns1.motylonline.com ip4:209.59.181.105 ip4:209.59.181.165 ~all" I keep trying different SPF records for 2 days now but without success For example any email sent to testing address [emailprotected] returns: ========================================================== Summary of Results ========================================================== mail-from check: softfail PRA check: softfail DomainKeys check: neutral (message not signed) ========================================================== Details: ========================================================== HELO hostname: host.motylonline.com Source IP: 209.59.181.105 mail-f

errors, WTF SPF always temp errors, WTF jrdai Member March 2014 in Help Received-SPF: temperror (encountered temporary error during SPF processing of domain of mail.test.com) My setting in the DNS is : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=418679 mail TXT v=spf1 ip4:198.xx.xx.xxx -all 600 I must have missed something important. Is it the hostname must be exactly the domain sending emails? Or is it rDNS setting? Comments wych Member March 2014 Have you set rDNS? Check your mail headers for the hostname/IP that the mails are coming from if you have more than 1 IP. Taking a hiatus. tommy Member March 2014 https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/23311/spf-always-temp-errors-wtf said: My setting in the DNS is : mail TXT v=spf1 ip4:198.xx.xx.xxx -all 600 what's 600 there? my SPF look like v=spf1 a ip4:18.xxx.xxx.11/32 ?all Let's bet which dot-name will collapse first ;) Dean Member March 2014 edited March 2014 This is how I usually do it... IP.ADD.RES.S01 - is the shared/dedicated IP for the site IP.ADD.RES.S02 - is the servers host IP that exim is usually running on server.hostname.tld - is the servers hostname that the rDNS points to for IP.ADD.RES.S02 mydomain.tld - its TXT entry is "v=spf1 ip4:IP.ADD.RES.S01 ip4:IP.ADD.RES.S02 include:server.hostname.tld ~all" server.hostname.tld - its TXT entry is "v=spf1 a mx ~all" Make sure that rDNS for all the IPs matches and isn't generic. jrdai Member March 2014 wych said: Have you set rDNS? No, is it because of that? tommy said: what's 600 there? It is the TTL. Thank you @DeanClinton for detailed explanation. So, I need to set the hostname the same as the one sending emails? So if my hostname is plato.test.com, and emails sent are mail.test.com, and the SPF/DKIM are setting for mail.test.com, in such case SPF checks will fail? Dean Member March 2014 edited March
Spam and Virus Filtering Programs Into Messaging ServerNext: Chapter 16 LMTP DeliveryChapter15 Handling Forged Email Using the Sender Policy Framework Spam producers and email scammers often forge email by using false domain names and email https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19566-01/819-4428/6n6j426t4/index.html addresses or by using legitimate domain names and email addresses in order to https://www.hmailserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26853 fool users into thinking that a message is from someone or some company they know. For example, a spammer could send email from an address such as president@whitehouse.gov and the user could be fooled into thinking the mail was actually from this address. Forging email may fool users into opening the unsolicited error during message, or worse, provide information to a false authority. Also, spammers prefer to send their email from legitimate domains that are not on an RBL list. Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is a technology that can detect and reject forged email during the SMTP dialogue. Specifically, SPF is a protocol that allows a domain to explicitly authorize the hosts that may use its domain name. error during spf In addition, a receiving host may be configured to check this authorization. SPF can thus significantly reduce the instances of forged email. 15.1 Theory of Operations 15.2 Limitations 15.3 Pre-Deployment Considerations 15.4 Setting up the Technology 15.5 Reference Information 15.6 Testing SPF using spfquery 15.7 Handling Forwarded Mail in SPF Using the Sender Rewriting Scheme (SRS) 15.1 Theory of Operations When a message comes into Messaging Server, the MTA does an SPF query to determine if the address actually came from the domain on the address. An SPF query consults the DNS for TXT records belonging to the domain of the message (domain). Domain is either the domain name specified as the argument for HELO or EHLO (if the spfhelo channel keyword is used) or the domain name in the originator's address given in the MAIL FROM: command (typically the part after the @ character). If no domain name is specified or available, the one specified during HELO/EHLO is used as domain. Note that most ISPs distribute an authorized list of IP addresses that match their domains. If the IP address does not match the domain name, then the message is as

The problem is that I'm not sure what to put as my SPF record.I've tried setting up DKIM as an alternative but this has not worked either even after trying different keys etc.... I suspect the problem is that the relay is changing something on the header.Would appreciate any advice.
