With the help oracle jdbc driver error establishing socket to host and port of Adobe support, I have finally gotten CF8.0.1 up and running on the new server: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/470337?tstart=0,I am now trying to connect CF8.0.1 Standard on the new x64 machine to SQLServer 2005 x64 bit. All of the databases I'm trying to setup on the new server are currently running on a x32 system with CF8.0.1 and SQLServer 2005 x32. Using the SQLServer drive type I get the following error:"Connection verification failed for data source: PHREDsevenSQLjava.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: DELLx64Server:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connectThe root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: DELLx64Server:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect."Using the ODBC Socket type I do not get a ODBC DSN name in the select box so I can't actually try this type of connection. I've tried both x32 and x64 bit ODBC System setups.I have verified the following:SQLServ

I have ColdFusion running well and serving pages (that aren't connected to a database). I can view my databases in SQL Server Management Studio. I successfully restored a few small databases and now I am trying to set up datasources for them through the ColdFusion Administrator. On my other machine, this was super easy. Not so much this time. The database I just added is named "Test". I am getting this error: Connection verification failed for data source: Test java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: localhost:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: localhost:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect It looks like the connection between ColdFusion and SQL Server is being refused. I know, brilliant observation, right? On my other machine, I was able to create datasources with just the default settings, no server name, username, or password. Any clue as to what might be the cause and how I might fix it? sql-server coldfusion share|improve this q
there on this subject but I seem to have to reinstall sql server on my laptops often and I always have to hunt down how to do http://blog.ryanvikander.com/index.cfm/2010/8/11/Using-Local-SQL-Server-Express-2008-Server-with-Coldfusion it so I thought I would post a blog so it would be http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3597336/set-up-datasource-in-coldfusion-9-for-mssql a bit more recent. I won't go over installing SQL Server Express, it takes a while seems like a good 30 minutes. Anyways, once you install it you can connect to your local database by connecting to the server (depending on what you named your server) [PC_Name]\SQLEXPRESS and depending on if you are error establishing using windows authentication you would enter your user name and password.Ok so once you've gotten that installed there are some more tricky stuff you need to do within SQL Server. First you will need to turn on TCP/IP which is located under Start > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager. Once you open up the manager go under: SQL Server Network error establishing socket Configuration and click on Protocols for SQLExpress (I assume this the name of the server). By default TCP/IP is disabled. So enable it by right clicking and enabling it. You will be prompted to restart your server service but I would wait until finished to do so. Now double-click TCP/IP or right click and go to Properties. Go into the IP Addresses tab and for each IPs enter in under TCP Port 1433. This allows for Coldfusion to connect to your database. Now you can apply and restart your server service. A tip if you skip that last step you will get this annoying error message and this is why I needed to post this:Connection verification failed for data source: rvikander java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: localhost:1433. I am creating the datasource using ColdFusion Administrator 9. I called my hosting company and received all the necessary information to get things going. After inputting the necessary information I get a connection failure, something to the effect that it has timed out. I noticed that when the administrator page came up to create the datasource, the default port number was 1433. Is this common? I feel all the necessary information I inputted was correct( username, password, databasename, server, etc;). Can anyone offer any suggestions? Here is the error: Connection verification failed for data source: cfhalloween java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. That's likely correct. Error establishing socket. Unknown host: s This suggests you have the value s listed for server. Instead, this should be the hostname or IP address of the SQL Server as seen from the server running CF. share|improve this answer answered Aug 30 '10 at 2:29 Ken Redler 18.5k34464 and don't forget to enable TCP/IP access from MS SQL, and make sure it is port 1433, not "dynamic" –Henry Aug 30 '10 at 18:12 @Henry How do I determine the server name if I have MS SQL Server 2014 installed locally on my machine and I am not using any IP.
