work OK, but others throw #Error. I cannot see why. Do you know? Applies To This topic is relevant to Microsoft Access 97, 2000, https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff836345.aspx 2002 (XP), 2003, 2007 and 2010. Answer The most common reason we find is that the name of the text box control itself is the same as the name of a field in the record source of the form, or of the report, that bears the text box. By way http://www.consultdmw.com/access-control-error.htm of illustration, imagine a form or report based on a table that has a field named 'TelNo'. Also, that a text box on the form or report is named 'TelNo'. For the control Source of the text box, you input ="Telephone No: " & [TelNo]. Now Access cannot make up its mind between TelNo the field and TelNo the text box, and as a result displays the error. Change the name of the text box to 'tebTelNo', say, and the Control Source expression to ="Telephone No: " & [tebTelNo] and the text box should behave. What do you mean by that? obatusai, Nov 13, 2008 #3 OBP Trusted Advisor Joined: Mar 8, 2005 Messages: 19,066 This error usually occurs when the Field Name in the Form's Field's Record Source Property does not match that of the Table or query providing the data. Have you checked the Form's "Field List"? If you can post a zipped copy of the database in Access 2003 version by converting it, we can look at it for you. Or post screenshots of error in access the Table in design mode and the Form with a Field with the problem in design mode. You can then open a blank Excel Worksheet and Paste the "Image" in to it. Now open the Form in design view and click on a Filed that has the #name problem, make sure the the Properties are showing and then use the Prontscreen to capture the image and paste that in the Excel Sheet as well. Use the "Go Advanced" and "Manage Attachments" Buttons to post the Excel sheet as an Attachmnent. Add custom error handling to my Access forms and reports? When capturing and handling errors, you probably think of the Err object, which stores information about the current run-time error. If a form or report encounters an error, you'll find the information you need in an event — the object's Error event to be exact. By default, Access handles action errors without any help from you. On occasion, you might find you want a little more control. When that's the case, take matters into your own hands by usurping the object's Error event. About the Error event Both forms and reports sometimes generate action errors, such as trying to delete a record protected by referential integrity or trying to add a new record without filling in required fields. When this happens, Access displays a predefined warning message that's usually adequate. But if you prefer, you can take charge of the event and force it to do the following: Inhibit the internal message Display a custom message Redirect the application's flow Using the Error
