It places blocks (dwg file) that are called into autocad at the coordinates read from the excel file. The program appeared to function well until I stumbled across an issue with the generated autocad drawing. Once the program is complete and all the blocks are drawn in autocad I can save the file as a .dwg file and open it again without issue. The problem I'm having is when I save the file as a .dxf file (2000, or 2007 version) and try to open it again in autocad, I'll get a message like the following: Error in BLOCK_RECORD Table Invalid symbol table record name: "" on line 1824. Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded I really don't even know where to start looking to resolve this. Why would the .dwg file be fine (or so it appears) but the .dxf file has this issue?? If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns. Some say beauty is in the eye of the Beholder... perhaps so, but I've only seen the disintegration beam. Everyone else being wrong is not the same thing as being right. to fix fatal errors... Every error has it's own cause, that I do understand. About 10 years ago I http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/archive/index.php/t-39561.html worked for a company that had a "help & support contract" for http://forum.ecivilnet.com/about920-0-asc-10.html a certain autocad application. In those days, whenever I had a fatal error I could send the drawing to that helpdesk in "dxf" format. In most cases (if not all) they found the cause of the problem and fixed it. I'd get back the dxf file and import it. I error in believe that this methode would be used also whenever I had missing shape files etc. It was quit handy to have those guys. Since I work for another company there is no helpdesk to call. We are alone :bloodshot: ... Can anyone tell me more about this? I mean like is this a known method that can be learned? Or where to error in block_record read about it, how to recognize errors in the dxf file? I know that a dxf file is to be read with notepad but I don't have a clue what to search for. Any help would be much appreciated for now and then we encounter those fatal errors and it would be nice to solve the probs. Tnx. ReMark26th Aug 2009, 12:37 pmIs it the program or the drawings that are generating the errors? ReMark26th Aug 2009, 12:40 pmWhat are you doing when you get these fatal errors? As you point out yourself, there are many causes. What action do you take when you get a fatal error now? What steps do you follow to resolve the problem? Do you even have a step-by-step approach?
