How do I fix? Running Windows 98 on clunky old IBM Thinkpad. Not sure how to find the actual file and display its contents, otherwise I'd attach it below. RUSS RKW027@EARTHLINK.NET 10/28/03 Error in config.sys file line 12 I can not get to windows or start or anything. It says: file missing or corrupted; C:\CDPRO\VIDE-CDD.SYS. Error in config.sys file, line 12 How can i fix this if I can't get to start or anything? Thanks, Russ kristie Lnlynjohnson@aol.com 01/07/04 Error in config.sys file line 12 C:\CDPRO\VIDE-CD when i start up my computer it goes to the task bar and when i run my computer tests it says line error 12 Peter pete.nguyen@btinternet.com 01/07/04 C:\CDPRO\VIDE-CDD.SYS isn't a Windows essential DLL. It should boot to see the taskbar regardless. You got a whole different problem there I don't know about RUSS. Backup config.sys in DOS to a floppy and remove that line. I doubt it will help. For those who CAN manage to get into Windows desktop after seeing the error. Right click "My Computer" and look at the Devices tab and check if you see any ! icons. Means an error for your CD device I'm assuming. Double click the device with the ! icon and click on Driver tab. Click Update driver and have your original system CD handy. If not you may have to hunt down the driver in your Windows directory when reinstalling whatever driver has messed up. PRATIK B DHAREK pratik_dharek@hotmail.com 02/19/04 Error in config.sys file line 2 when i reboot my comp it says 'Error in file config.sys on line 2. The following file VIDE_CDD.SYS is missing or corrupted' Frank ssta@operamail.com 03/20/04 the vide_cdd.sys that is missing is a reference to a cd-rom driver that has been moved or deleted. In Windows, that file is not needed. Windows uses its own cd rom driver. The only time that driver would be needed if you were to start in DOS mode. simply delete that line in your config.sys file and save it. Reboot and problem solved.
