On a machine of this age, I advise you to check the hard drive for errors. Did you just get it, or have you had it a long time? These came out in 1999. Possibly you can use another computer to download oakcdrom.sys from a website and try replacing the one on the hard drive of the Pavilion 6535, but this is a very old machine and is probably at the end of its life. I had a problem which a tech guy fixed, but when I got home I couldn't get small icons and only 16 bit. I tried to adjust to full color, but my computer kept kicking back to 16 bit. My tech guy error in said I needed to reload my driver. I went to Dell and downloaded a driver they said would work for my machine and operating system. Then I couldn't get past the windows welcome screen. I then went in and copied my config.bak to my config.sys file and still cannot get past the windows welcome screen and now have the following error messages: There is an unrecognized command in your config.sys file. There is an e rror error in config.sys in your Config.sys file on line 18 There is an unrecognized command i n your config.sys file. There is an e rror in your Config.sys file on line 32. The following file is missing or corrupt: HIMEM.SYS There is an error in your Config.sys file on line 33. What should I do???? Nothing in the config.sys file or autoexec.bat for that matter, is required to start Win98. Have you tried starting in Safe Mode? To do so, press and hold the ctrl key immediately on startup and select Safe Mode from the boot options. Once in Safe Mode, run msconfig and take the check out 'load config.sys' on the General page. Now restart and see if Windows will load normally. Copy exactly any errors you might get. Do you have a Win98 "startup" floppy disk (we'll need it if you still get the himem.sys error)? If you have a display problem, you will still have it. Aside from the color depth, what resolution (screen area) are you trying to load? Don't try to go higher than 1024x768. Is this the page you went to for your drivers? What video adapter is identified for your machine? http://support.dell.com/filelib/Dev...S=W98++&OSL=EN&SvcTag=&SysID=INS_PNT_PII_7000 Rollin' Rog, Mar 8, 2003 #2 Joycr Thread S
