This is based on the use of an HTTP cookie ( MYSAPSSO2 cookie or logon ticket) that stores the user's identity. Once the user has been authenticated, and if the server is appropriately configured, a logon ticket that is typically valid for the complete domain is set. The server can also be configured to set the cookie to be returned only to the specific server. Now, on all subsequent HTTP requests, the browser sends the cookie with the HTTP request. The targeted server can use the information within the cookie as credentials to authenticate the user. SAP NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC) is a shell that can start different content areas, based on different UI technologies, for example, SAP GUI or HTML. Each of these content types has its own communication channel to the underlying server and needs authentication information to access the server. To pass authentication information securely from the shell to the different content types, you must configure the server to use logon tickets (MYSAPSSO2 cookies) or assertion tickets. Logon tickets also enable NWBC to start applications against multiple systems and multiple clients. Caution The activation and correct configuration of logon tickets is a prerequisite for using NWBC with any server. It is important for NWBC that all users must be dialog users, which can be configured in transaction User Maintenance ( SU01). This is

Prerequisite: User must have installed the SAP GUI and SAP NWBC 3.5 on their desktop in order to login on it. Also, a basic understanding on SAP NWBC will be helpful to understand this article. Details: As most of us know that the basic purpose of SAP NWBC is to having all the required applications, traditional SAP transaction at a single platform. A very important and interesting feature of it is Single Sign on (SSO). The NWBC uses SSO2 cookies for authentication purposes. In order for the client to connect to the backend, SSO2 cookies must be configured and activated in the system. We should enable SSO2 cookies by configuring the following profile parameters: login/accept_sso2_ticket = 1 login/create_sso2_ticket =2 Steps: Go to transaction code RZ10 in your backend SAP R3 system. Select the checkbox “Extended Maintenance” and Click on Display. Click on change mode of the profiles if the required profiles and not already added. Click on New Parameter and fill the required details. Save the set

Other terms SSO, Single Sign On, SAP Logon Ticket, Login, MYSAPSSO2 cookie, Reason and Prerequisites This note does not cover basics which are described already in the NWBCdocumentation in chapter 7 "Security Aspects": http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp2ru/helpdata/en/ea/d9849862b941119f5fe26b9179ecda/frameset.htmWith NWBC 3.5 you have the choice between SAP Logon Tickets or Assertiontickets.Be aware that assertion tickets (configuration see note 1562004) - unlikelogon tickets - are specific to a system and a client. Therefore NWBC needsauthentication for each new client/system.SSO errors do indicate an incomplete / incorrect (server side) ssoconfiguration (consulting). The following links might give you additionalinformation:ohttps://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/817529ohttps://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1055856ohttp://goo.gl/oPm0AFor technical analysis an HTTP sniffer tool like HTTPWatch or Fiddler e.g.is very helpful. Be aware that HTTPWatch does only work inside InternetExplorer not in NWBC Desktop. Fiddler works with both.Additional background information from our support experience:best guess ~99% of sso<->nwbc related support tickets are no bug (support)but configuration (consulting) issues. Solution Symptom: SAPGUI login screen shows "the system is unable tointerpret the SSO ticket received" [NWBC *] This situation can occur with logon tickets as well as assertion tickets. In case of logon tickets and target system being a remote system, there ismost likely no trust relationship to the issuer system of the logon ticket.ohttp://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/hel
