x, title) : invalid device” error message up vote 4 down vote favorite 1 I'm running R through the Terminal in a Mac OSX Snow Leopard system. I get this error message when trying to use View(): Error in .External2(C_dataviewer, x, title) : invalid device In addition: Warning messages: 1: In View(a) : locale not supported by Xlib: some X ops will operate in C locale 2: In View(a) : X cannot set locale modifiers 3: In View(a) : unable to create fontset --fixed-medium-r----120------ And this error message when trying to use edit(): Error in .External2(C_dataentry, datalist, modes) : invalid device In addition: Warning messages: 1: In edit.data.frame(a) : locale not supported by Xlib: some X ops will operate in C locale 2: In edit.data.frame(a) : X cannot set locale modifiers 3: In edit.data.frame(a) : unable to create fontset --fixed-medium-r----120------ I can't find information about this particular problem. What can I do to fix this? sessionInfo() returns: R version 3.0.1 (2013-05-16) Platform: x86_64-apple-darwin10.8.0 (64-bit) locale: [1] C/UTF-8/C/C/C/C attached base packages: [1] stats graphics grDevices utils datasets methods base r share|improve this question edited Sep 16 at 5:27 Cyrus Mohammadian 1,8061728 asked Sep 25 '13 at 15:38 Archundia 5721825 What does sessionInfo() say? IS this relevant? stackoverflow.com/questions/8808069/… –doctorlove Sep 25 '13 at 15:48 @doctorlove I don't think it's relevant. His error message is regarding fonts and mine is regarding "invalid device". I'll add the sessionInfo() to the original post. –Archundia Sep 25 '13 at 15:54 I'm pretty sure the problem is the unable to create fontset. I can't reproduce this on my Snow Leopard box, but am contin
RStudio again. However, the View() command is acting very strange and is usually not working When I read a csv with read.csv (say I called it data) and then click on the variable, or type View(data) I get a new screen on top of the script as I would expect, but then I see nothing, no headers and no data. No error messages. However, when I try to View one row or one column it does work. (and in regards to something I wrote below, when I subset http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19009308/cant-use-either-view-or-edit-functions-getting-error-in-external2c-data the data to less columns, it still doesn't work) When I try to read it with fread then there are two options: First option: If the columns fit on the screen, it is able to display the table when I click on data (or try View(data)) Second option: When there are more columns than I expect to fit on the screen I usually https://support.rstudio.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/207688327-RStudio-View-gives-error-or-doesn-t-display-anything get the following error: "Error in if (col_min < col_max) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed" However, when made a new table by selecting a subset of columns (still too many for the screen) it sometimes works. Also it I saw that it also seems to work when I select rows from the original data when there are no NAs in any of the fields, although strangely enough there where NAs in the subsetted dataset. So I don't know what is going on here... Final thing I tried: I tried utils::View(logs) but got the following error:"Error in .External2(C_dataviewer, x, title) : unable to start data viewerIn addition: Warning message:In utils::View(logs) : unable to open display" I'd love to be able to use the View command (or just click on a variable), it makes it so much easier to get to grips with a dataset. Do you have any how I can fix this? Thank you! Nadieh Nadieh Bremer December 11, 2015 09:31 Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google+ Please sign in to leave a comment.
