It seems that, occasionally, Pythonwin takes sometime to load every thing up, but with no splash screen , you dont' know if anything is happening. AFAIK, the DDE error occurs because there are two instances running. It's no solution I know, but I've found being a little more patient with Pywin seems to prevent this from happening. ME. The first time that I try to run PythonWin eachday, the hourglass cursor appears for 5-10 seconds and then it goes away. The IDE does not appear. If I try to start it again, I get a window with themessage "There was an error in the DDE conversation with PythonWin". I thenclick on an OK button and PytonWin starts. The IDE seems to run normallyfrom that point on. Any thoughts on what's wrong. Jens B. Examples are Apache and some other "server" type programs. If you can't work out what it is, modify the Pythonwin shortcut to pass a"/nodde" command-line option. This will prevent Pythonwin from trying tofind an existing instance to switch to, and should pop up immediately.Mark.-----Original Message-----From: python-win32-***@python.org [mailto:python-win32-***@python.org]OnBehalf Of Rick KayeSent: Wednesday, 24 July 2002 7:30 AMTo: python-***@python.orgSubject: [python-win32] Pythonwin requires two tries to startThere seems to be something wrong with my Python setup. Tried DejaNews and drew blanks. I couldn't find anything with dde or DDE. Quote:> > Specifically can Python be used as a DDE client? > Yes. I only have examples in VB and VBA. Where would be the best place to start with PythonWin and DDE? Quote:> Mark. I think from Pegusas Mail's DDE docs, the VB examples: server = dde.CreateServer() server.Create("ME") conversation = dde.CreateConversation(server) try: conversation.ConnectTo("WinPMail", "TCP") except: win32api.WinExec("C:\\PMAIL\\winpm-32.exe -Z 8192") conversation.ConnectTo("WinPMail", "TCP") try: conversation.Poke("TCP", "Get") except: print curtime(), "Poke failed. Maybe a timeout " time.sleep(600) - Gordon Mon, 24 Dec 2001 03:00:00 GMT Mark Hammon#4 / 4 Python/PythonWin and DDE? Quote: > Are there any docs about PythonWin and DDE?
