My only option at that point was to restart the machine without shutting it down. I'm running an old server with unix and SCO openserver 5 I managed to find a 3.5 boot floppy but my 3.5 root floppy has a bad image error. When the machine attempted to reboot I received a warning and panic message as follows: PANIC: srmountfun - Error 22 mounting rootdev hd 1/42 cannot dump 8095 pages to dumpdev hd 1/41 space for only 0 pages warning wd0: Error on fixed disk dev 1/42 block=0, cmd=0x00000020, status=0x00005940, sector 173312, cylinder/head 677/0 Any help would be appreciated greatly. Do you have a recent backup? Since it is an IDE drive, it should be easy to replace. 1/42 is the root file system. Do you have a separate /u file system for data? The more you try to read this drive, the more damage you are going to do to it. What backup procedure are you using? Oddly enough the second drive > in this confuser has not had any errors and it still has a 40 pin cable, but > that one is connected to a cd-rom drive as well..... hmm, time will tell. If it is only using UDMA33, a 40-pin cable is supposed to be adequate. An 80-pin cable does give better signal fidelity, so maybe it will help. It's also possible the old cable was just bad (recently damaged, somehow), and that replacing it will help even if you only use a 40-pin replacement. But... most likely the drive itself is going bad. When a drive auto-spares a bad block, the replacement block comes out of some sort of pool the drive reserved for its

It locks up the front desk too. message reads- wd: ERROR: on fixed disk ctlr=o dev=1/42 block=6 cmd=00000020 status=00005940, sector=59003, cylinder/head= 433/6 hd: WARNING: out of inodes on dev 1/42 What is this and how do I fix it? Or can I fix it? I have another Advantage system that uses a Computone block, can I interchange that unit with mine that has a homerun box? The Computone does not work, or I would just use the whole system. I tried to reset the system, but I do not know how to shut it down properly, all I did was unplug it. I do not actually use the back office part of my system, but the front desk does not work without it. I think I saw it is version 3.03 if that helps. HELP!!!!! /content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif wb8yjf01-27-2005, 12:42 AMOh man, that sounds BAD. You will need different cables for the system with the HR box. You'd be better off swapping the whole system... wb8yjf01-27-2005, 12:45 AMWill look into this! deb02-25-2005, 03:09 PM"hd: WARNING: out of inodes on dev 1/42" is NOT a hard drive error. This error occurs when the XENIX operating system can't create a new file because it does not have the resources it needs (inodes). It can be fixed by reconfiguring the xenix kernel. I can provide step-by-step instructions if you want to try. wb8yjf02-25-2005, 03:56 PMCoooollll....A Xenix nerd! /content/btubb/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif Could you walk us thru that procedure?
