I will start with a short introduction to the Business Client, along with a guide on how to get started. Focus will be on the usage error in of the NWBC against the ABAP Application Server. You can find the documentation for the 3.5 version of the NWBC here. SAP has also provided a FAQ in OSS Note 90000. Introduction to the NWBC 4.0 The latest version of the business client is 4.0. The main difference between this version and the earlier 3.5 version is primarily the "Look and Feel" of the interface. Just error in interpretation like tabbed browsing and new index and favourite pages, the 4.0 version also has support for the "Open Search" standard. Sandra Thimme from SAP has uploaded this introduction to the NetWeaver Business client on YouTube: Preparing the backend Before you can connect to a SAP System with the NWBC, there're a couple of configurations required in the backend system. Setup the ICM framework The NetWeaver Business Client uses the HTTP/HTTPS protocol to communicate with the ABAP Stack. This means that you need to make sure that either the HTTP or the HTTPS protocol is enabled in the ICM framework. You can check this from the ICM monitor (transaction code SMICM ->Goto ->Services) If you don't have an active HTTP or HTTPS service running, you need to activate them. You do this in transaction RZ10. This is where you can set a server port - "icm/server_port_(xx)" and a fully qualified domain name - "icm/host_name_full". Just entering the IP address or server name like in the SAP logon will not be sufficient. On my local NSP instance this looks like this: icm/server_port_0 = PROT=HTTP,PORT=8000,TIMEOUT=60,PROCTIMEOUT=60 icm/host_name_full = mhn.sappack.com Note ! If you are testing the
