Error In Locking Authority File Root.xauthority
Base Search for: Search Error in locking authority file When trying to connect using ssh, if you see a similar error to the following in the status log /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth: error in locking authority file $HOME/.Xauthority This issue typically occurs for one of several reasons Out of disk space: If your user has a disk quota, or your disk is full, the xauth program will not be able to write to the .Xauthority file. Try freeing up disk space on your system File permissions are wrong: The file permissions on .Xauthority must be 400 (read and write for user ONLY). Any other file permission will cause the xauth program to reject the file As a final measure you can try deleting the .Xauthority file altogether. The file will be recreated the next time you log in with ssh About Us Company Info Products Other StarNets Contact Us Support Knowledge Database Open a Support Case Purchase Online Store Get a Quote Partners & Resellers Educational Licensing Try It FastX X-Win32 News StarNet Adds Secure Remote Linux and Unix Desktops to X-Win32 StarNet's FastX Lets Users See Their Remote Linux Desktop Without Logging In X Windows Connectivity Leader StarNet Adds Secure Session Sharing to FastX StarNet Communications provides world class, affordable emulator solutions for connecting to remote Linux and remote Unix desktops and applications. How do I change this? –ShanZhengYang Nov 18 '15 at 14:44 Presumably /home/users/USERNAME is the home directory for user USERNAME so if it is not owned by them you are going to have a lot of other problems (which is the only way you could not create the file if it didn't exist) ... my guess is that the user's .Xauthority file will be owned by root - I vaguely recall a bug somewhere (in openssh??) that causes this ownership problem but can't remember the details ... just remove the .Xauthority file for that user (on the remote host) –Murray Jensen Nov 18 '15 at 14:57 @MurrayJensen I deleted the .Xauthority file.
