The How-To Geek Forums Have Migrated to Discourse How-To Geek Forums / Geek Stuff (Solved) - "error in desk.cpl missing entry:Settings,@Settings" (4 posts) Started 4 years ago by cragge Latest reply from cragge Topic Viewed 1512 times cragge Posts: 3 This post has been reported. i was going to change my settings on my external mouse one day when i got this message: Error in C:\Windowss\system32\main.cpl Missing entry:Mouse and i don't know why back in early december i got a virus of some sort, and i wiped it off my computer with minimal damage, but it attacked most of my .exe files and my minecraft was the main thing that was infected but i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked fine after that but i don't think that that is my problem, but if it isn't, i have no clue what could be. i also found many other error messages in all of my personalization files except backgrounds: Error in desk.cpl Missing entry:Settings,@Settings Error in desk.cpl Missing entry:Themes,@Themes Error in C:\Windows\system32\main.cpl Missing entry:Mouse,1 Error in C:\Windows\system32\mmsys.cpl Missing entry:Sound,2 Error in desk.cpl Missing Entry:ScreenSaver,@ScreenSaver Error in desk.cpl Missing entry:Appearance,@Appearance These are among many i have found trying to change any kind of setting i have had on my Windows Vista Dell Latitude D630 please help i will do anything to have it back to normal and i have found other people who have the same problem but they say to do some sort of "System Restore" or whatever it was and i don't know how to do it so if that's the case then i need to know how to do it thank you for your time Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top vistamike Posts: 10945 This post has been reported. cragge, hi and welcome. This program will now exit." after i click to go turn System Protection on and something comes up that has a button that says system restore and below it (C:) (Missing) with a checked box that i can't uncheck and Local Disk (C:) (System) unchecked and i can't check it.
