You, are, the man. I found the first registry fix on almost every other site, but it was the "Desktop fix" that completed it and got me back into the game I know and love. I waited in line, then installed it on June 29, 2000, the day it was released. =] Great find man, you're helping a lot of folks out. October 25, 2009 at 9:27 PM Cody said... Worked like a charm! I am installing the Diablo 2 on win 7 32bit.Encountered the same problems as everyone. "No start menu entry found"andthe string line 14 error "desktop"Every place you look is saying to correct the registry.I tried that but it wont work. And I figured out why.Do exactly as its been told to find the right place to correct the reg but instead of putting in the long line C:\\Users\\%USERNAME%\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs just click new/string line and write Programs and do the same with Desktop simply write Desktop and I got it installed. At the end of intallation it said had error to put all the links and shortcuts but its not a bother. Game runs smooth. enjoy.P.S.Sorry about my grammar errors but english is not my native language. First, when i run INSTALL.EXE, i get this message:"No program start menu found"I managed to get around this by editing a registry. error in But right after I've chosen install directory, I get a new message:"Error in script file SetupDat\inst.ins, line 14: undefined symbol (desktop)."I googled this and found someone who solved it, but it was in Wine and I guess that's only for Linux users. So, anyone know what to do? Neither SetupDat or inst.ins shows up in a search of the CD contents. smoothanddeadlyMember Since: June 20, 2004Posts: 59smoothanddeadlyFollowForum Posts: error in script 59Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#2 Posted by smoothanddeadly (59 posts) - 9 years, 3 months ago Did you try running the .exe file in Win XP compatibility mode? But I got it working a while ago. I installed it on another computer (running Windows XP), copied the files to my computer and manually ran VideoTest once again, and it works good enough so I can log on to Battle.net and keep my characters from expiring =) Ein-7919Member Since: August 16, 2003Posts: 3490Ein-7919FollowForum Posts: 3490Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#4 Posted by Ein-7919 (3490 posts) - 9 years, 3 months ago That is really peculiar, since I was able to install Diablo 1 and 2 under Vista and they both run perfectly (although, the Diablo 2 video test somehow detected the Glide rendering API on my computer....) Also pls tell me whether the PROGRAM key value has to be in double-quotes - for e.g. "C:\Warcraft III\Warcraft III.exe"? When I include that in "" I don't get the WC3 required msg... but when I don't I get it. Further, if I bypass the WC3 reqd msg, I get some weird script error in the installer. it says something like "unexpected token". I am pretty sure that my TFT installer is NOT corrupt since it works on my friends PC. I'm sure the script error is somehow related to the registry entries. Thanx in advance. el_cielo, Jul 16, 2003 #4 trashcan New Member Joined: Jul 16, 2003 Messages: 7 Likes received: 0 Trophy points: 0 el_cielo.. are you manage to get rid of "warcraft 3 required" with that registry entry??? trashcan, Jul 16, 2003 #5 trashcan New Member Jo
