The remote server doesn't have rsync this is why I http://serverfault.com/questions/225040/ssh-is-ok-but-connection-refused-when-trying-to-rsync-why am doing this this way. The remote server name is athens, and the directory I want to backup is /disk3/nicolas/scripts The only connection allowed is ssh, which works. I initiate this command to copy the SRC (athens::disk3/nicolas/scripts/) to current directory rsync --verbose athens::disk3/nicolas/scripts/ . rsync: failed to connect to athens: Connection refused (61) rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-40/rsync/clientserver.c(105) [receiver=2.6.9] Is there something I need to edit on the remote server? inetd.conf perhaps? As asked, I'm using rsync version 2.6.9. There is no -e option to force ssh, in my version of rsync, the -e option is to specify the remote shell to use. I can not increase more verbosity. rsync configuration share|improve this question edited Jan 21 '11 at 9:07 asked Jan 21 '11 at 8:03 kaklon 13916 I'm confused, I would expect something like 'rsync -vvv -e ssh athens:/disk3/nicolas/scripts/ ./. -e` always takes an argument for the transport protocol you want to use. Also what's up with the double :: after athens? –Phil Hollenback Jan 21 '11 at 8:41 I guess I don't understand well how rsync works. I will edit my question, sorry for that –kaklon Jan 21

I guess that means an SSH http://www.hivmr.com/db/997f7kpfka71kfpxaxs8pzsmx8cs3jx7 tunnel is not required to access the rsync daemon holding the CVS repositories. You could continue using the SSH-less command that worked, or you could use the SSH tunnel anyway if you wish error in to have your data protected in transit. > I am very new to this so please bear with me. Could you please tell me > how to manully do the ssh? Would that be using putty? Just run the "Tunnel command" shown by the batch file and kill it with Ctrl-C once it connects successfully: ssh -i "E:\BTP\PuTTY\myPrivateKey_SSH2DSA.ppk" -L 9119:127.0.0.1:873 SvcwRsync at myProject.cvs.sourceforge.net -T -N Matt > On error in socket Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 1:30 PM, Matt McCutchen >

I have LSI 9260 8i controller which native tested transfer rates with a given HDD are R/W - 180/120MB/s. When tested with DirectPath I/O activated, transfer rates for the same controller with the same HDD are R/W - 180/60MB/s. Actually 60MB/s write is the same performace as for the local virtual HDD ! I tested with the following commands in CentOS guest: dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/test.iso bs=64k count=50k conv=fdatasyncdd if=/mnt/test.iso of=/dev/null bs=64k count=50k conv=fdatasync On the same hardware another Hypervisor with PCI pass-trough capabilities and PV CentOS guest the transfer rates are nearly same as native on
