None of the XP machines at my site are having any problems. I appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer. SQL Server 2005 SQL Native Client 2005.90.1399.00 (supported on Win2K w/SP4 per Microsoft) DAW'S MSSQLDRV version 4.1.0.30 On 1 machine the error I get is: --------------------------- Microsoft SQL Server Login --------------------------- Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 233 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionWrite (GetOverLappedResult()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08S01' SQL Server Error: 4 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Connection broken. On the other machine the error is the same, except the 2nd error is #17 instead #4. I haven't found much understandable or useful information on these error codes in MS documents. No luck. Tried the tool kit but it required ADS, which I do not have. So I thought http://support.dataaccess.com/Forums/showthread.php?3511-SQL-Server-Connection-errors-from-Win2K-machines I'd try Virtual Machine Manager 2007.The configuration is:Win2003R2 running MS Vurtual Server 2005 and Virtual Machine Manager 2007It is also DC. The FQDN is US1.VS.XYZ.COM, where the server name is US1 and the domain is VS.XYZ.COMThe machine to be converted is Win2kSP4. It is a member of the domain. It shows up in the https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/45facdfa-1169-40cc-8c9e-876b1b662368/virtual-machine-manager-2007-error-in-converting-physical-to-virtual?forum=virtualmachinemanager Domain console under Computers. It's name is M1.I start VMM, click Convert Physical Server. I select my win2k server from the Browse list. The name comes up as M1.Computers.vs.xyz.com (I remove the ".computers" part)I enter proper log-in information in VMM.I get to the Gather System Information step and get this:VMM is unable to add the server 4UDM1.vs.4udr.com as a managed computer because the server is not listed in Active Directory Domain Services.Verify that the server name and the domain name are correct, and then try the operation again.ID: 439Any diagnostic help on this?thanksWes Thursday, July 03, 2008 2:28 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I found the issue. I was playing around doing all sorts of debugging: DNS, domain controller issues, SPD, etc... Then I went to network neighborhood and noticed I couldn't browse. I also noticed that I could not Remotely Manage the Win2k machine. As it turns out, these were all firewall related issues. I

Everything worked fine except the virtual machine. Of course, Microsoft no longer supports this after getting their chin bloodied by Sun, but I'm trying to get this to error in work. It was suggested that I uninstall the current version of the MSJVM, 3810 and reinstall the older version 3805, then update to the latest using Windows Update. This did not work. It won't allow me to install an older version giving an error that sounds like, "The Microsoft virtual machine you are attempting to install is a protected system component and can only error in win2k be updated with a later release of the operating system of service pack." Hi Gordieboy - You can test whether Java is working on your machine at the following sites: http://www.pocoso.de/pocoso052.html http://www.clan.lib.ri.us/clan/javatest.html (This one may be down) http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp (both 1.0 and 1.1 and what's installed) http://coglab.wadsworth.com/support/browsercheck.html http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html If you have Sun Java installed, you can run their test utility here: http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp and you can test Javascript here: http://www.dancespots.net/browsertest.htm There is good information concerning all aspects of the Java situation here: http://www.javatester.org/installing.html Be aware, however, that after Dec 31, 2007, MS will apparently no longer be distributing Java or providing any support for Java including security fixes.
