I have iis7 with FTP 7.5 and a ftp site created. my router points all request on ports 20-22 to the server and the ports are open on the firewall (even tried disabling the firewall) I've also gone thru the ftp firewall support. I have a https://forums.iis.net/t/1157854.aspx?FTP+501+server+cannot+accept+argument network location to the ftp site and when opened it prompts for user name and password which I enter host|username it accepts and errors out with the 501 server cannot accept argument. How do you get this to work? any help will be appreciated ftp Reply lextm 6628 Posts MVP Re: FTP: 501 server cannot accept argument May 23, 2009 09:19 PM|lextm|LINK Please check explanation on 501 from here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318380 I can understand that you checked a lot of materials, but did you ever check FTP protocol itself, which explains every details. In your case, I suggest you install Network Monitor or Wireshark to capture conversation between the client and the server, then based on the protocol itself it will not be hard to figure what command is sent to the server and triggers this 501 error. Mar 4th, 2011 at 6:25pm http://support.dart.com/postings?topicid=8305 Hi,We're running watchDirectory Pro ver. 4.6.5. I'm trying to set up an FTP routine to send files to a client's site when they're dropped into a folder. So far I have everything set up as I believe it should be. For example when I'm editing the task, I have server ip address (or fqdn), port 21, protocol FTP, passive error in mode has been enabled and disabled with same result, userid is correct, password is correct, base directory is /, transfer is Always Binary. We don't have a proxy server, so it's set to No Proxy. When I click the browse button, the system pops up the error: "wdopAutoFtp: Syntax error in parameters or arguments."I have watched our firewall, and it shows:2011-03-04 12:19:52 X510-Top Allow 192.168.99.3 69.x.x.x ftp/tcp 54288 21 1-Trusted 0-Peer1 Allowed 52 127 (FTP-outbound-00) error in parameters proc_id="firewall" rc="100" src_ip_nat="64.x.x.x" tcp_info="offset 8 S 1251275590 win 32" Traffic(x's added for security)The internal Windows firewall is disabled.I have "Write Debug information" enabled, and I have "Write FTP conversation to History". From what I can tell, no FTP conversation takes place. I have a:Debug: isconnected?Debug: getting stateDebug: nope, stateDebug: ConnectingDebug: Attempt to connectInfo: Connectedand then it goes on to AutoFTP: enter abort now, and it looks like it stops.I have other FTP software installed on the same machine and it's able to access the client site without any problems. Reply #1 - Mar 5th, 2011 at 12:32pm Hello Al,It is hard to tell what is happening. One thing is sure: this is not a message generated from WD itself: it comes from the FTP server. The problem is, this message (501: Syntax error....) can be a response to any command that is sent by WD to your FTP server. It looks like WD is able to connect. The first thing WD does after connecting is changing to the directory you have entered. What happens when you leave the base directory empty and press Browse? IndiaPosts:9Member Since:06/12/09 posted February 3, 2011 8:54 AMHi there,I am using Version 2.3.3 of PowerTCP FTP for .Net . I am using it in my C#app which is built on VS2005, The problem is the application fails on all the data commands like get, put, List with the protocol exception when executing on a Windows 7 32 bits m/c. Below is what the tracelog of the application has logged=== Exception Data ===Dart.PowerTCP.Ftp.ProtocolException: Request: PORT 10,66,74,106,248,95Response: 501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments. at Dart.PowerTCP.Ftp.c.Invoke(Delegate A_0, Object[] A_1) at Dart.PowerTCP.Ftp.Ftp.List(String searchPattern, Boolean full) at ....Here I am trying to ftp from adevice which is quite ancient and has Windows95 TCP/IP stack.I do not get an error if I am using CMD prompt to ftp from the same device and on same machine. Also the application works like a charm on XP, 2K.I have tried using the PASV mode as well but to no avail. Also worked with the Inbound rule for IPV4 in the firewall settings, did not work. Please note that I can use the same application with a device which has the latest TCP/IP stack implementation.Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Mukta NickB (Admin)From: Utica, NY USAPosts:520Member Since:05/25/10Extra Support OptionsCustom Application Development posted February 3, 2011 9:25 AMHello,You may try running your application 'As Administrator' from the right-click context menu to see if that resolves your issue. If that does not resolve your issue, version 2.3.3 of FTP for .NET was released in August, 2006; before Vista or Win7 was released, and therefore was not tested against them. Please try the latest trial to see if your issue has been resolved: http://www.dart.com/ptftpnet.aspxIf your issue is resolved, you may contact sales@dart.com for purchasing options.-------Non-current subscribers must contact sales@dart.com to update subscription and receive continued support as needed.------ mukta_batrarajendra_singh@infosys.comFrom: Chandigarh, IndiaPosts:9Member Since:06/12/09 posted February 3, 2011 9:41 AMI have already tried the "run as Admin" option, did not help. Again as I have posted that the same client app works great with a diff device which supports the current TCP/IP implementation. Could you put some thoughts on the above point? Also if you could mail me the release Notes of the DART FTP, to help me make an informed decision about porting my app to the latest version, tha
