USB flash drive, relatively new. Recently when transferring some files there was an error and the drive could not be opened, so I tried to format the drive. The Windows error in ioctl call floppy utility could not format the disk, so I have since tried using the command prompt and various file format commands: format F:/q format F:/fs:fat format F:/fs:fat32 format F:/fs:ntfs Each time I get the following results: Insert new disk for drive F: and press ENTER when ready... The type of the file system is RAW. The new file system is FAT. (or error in ioctl call hard disk whatever I tried) Verifying 8064M Error in IOCTL call. Its the final line that has got me stumped. I've had a search and cant find any solution, so I was wondering if anyone else has come across this, and whether anyone knows of a way to solve the problem. Im on Windows 7. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Reports: · Posted 6 years ago Top raphoenix Posts: 14920 This post has been reported. gazelle, Welcome to HTG. Because, there are some programs, that cause, system conflicts, by blocking the ports, such as: Samsung Kies, HTC Sync, etc. - In the Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Device Management Tools: see if a USB icon is crossed out with red, or there is a yellow question mark, etc. 3- restore to "System Restore Point", before the problem. If still bad: 4- To check the PC, by a PC Technician. Add comment Reply to this topic Ask a question Members get more answers than anonymous users. Solved formatting memroy stick error "error in IOCTL call" Posted on 2011-08-07 PCs Windows 7 Storage 1 Verified Solution 23 Comments 2,667 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-11 I have a 32GB kingston data travler memory stick and since my PC froze up on my yesterday, I just pulled out the memory stick. Well, since then, the PC doesn't recogonize the drive anymore, when I plug in my memory stick, I get the following message "you need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. When I select format disk, I get the following error "windows can't format F, check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read only and try again." Then when I try to go to disk management to format it there, it won't even give me the option to format it, it doesn't see it there. Then when I try to format it in the cmd prompt, I get the following error message: "error in IOCTL call" Does anyone know what I can do to format it? I would prefer to get my data first if possible, so I don't want to format it, but if I have no choice, that is my last option, but it looks like I can't even do that. 0 Question by:afacts Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 11 Best Solution bypmasotta I think your only chance is trying to get the stick manufacturer format utility...
