[SOLVED]byHarmoniaChimera on Mon 19 Aug 2013, 03:14Hi there,so yesterday I've learned that there's the new expansion pack to Sims 3 -- the Island Paradise. I downloaded it from your torrent. For a long error number time, I couldn't install it to start with (for reasons currently forgotten, but it was crashing before I even reached the serial code), so I also downloaded your universal fix. When I got to the point of updating the game, my Launcher said nothing was wrong with it. I tried launching the game (still without the Island Paradise) after that, and it crashed for no apparent reason. I thought it was error number 0x80040702 about the updating, so I downloaded the manual patch from your site. And here's where fun starts. Upon launching the manual patch, it was all fine. As soon as it reached 100%, it crashed, with a message: "Error Number: 0x80040702Description: Failed to load DLL: DSETUPSetup will now terminate"I decided to ignore this message, silently hoping the installer had done its work after all (I'm a hopeful person, see), and ran the game. It spit an error:"Unable to start. Please reinstall the base game."Now, that's exactly the thing I'd love to avoid, since I have all the expansion packs available, and it would be horrible to have to go through all that again; so I kept trying, over and over: the fix -> the update -> error ignoring -> installing the IP. After about five cycles or so, I succeeded and the Island Paradise EP indeed installed itself. So I fixed it all up again, patched the game with the same error (again) and tried to open the launcher. The error message was the same. For kicks, I also launched the game from TS3W.exe file and it said:"Unable to start game.Your Sims 3 Base Game is incompatible with the current Sims 3 Expansion Pack. Please update your game via the game launcher." Our install worked fine on all of our developer machines but failed on a test computer with a clean install of Windows XP. We received the following error message: Error 0x80040702 - Failed to load DLL. After a lot of searching the problem appeared to be connected to the C Runtime library DLL, msvcrt.dll. Changing our DLL so that it linked statically to this (compiling our code with the /MT option instead of the default /Md) fixed the problem. Hopefully this information will help somebody else. However, I don't understand this solution as msvcrt.dll was found on the test computer. Can anyone explain this? The msvcrt.dll file was found in the Windows System32 directory. I don't think you said which version of C++ you are using so maybe this KB article will help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154753 I also assume that you know how to use Depends? ( Sorry, I suggested depends to a user a few months back and the person responded with `I thought those were diapers?` http://c
