The error indicates that a certain path or object cannot be found by the installer. To resolve this issue: Restart the computer, often times a reboot will cause the system to return to a state that InstallShield can now handle. Make sure you are not using any roaming profiles and can reach your "My Documents" folder. Make sure your temp folder can be reached and your account has write access to it. Create a new Local Administrator account and log in as that account to run the installer. Update to the latest InstallShield installation engines, as recommended by this InstallShield article: https://flexeracommunity.force.com/customer/articles/en_US/ERRDOC/Q110641 If the error persists after performing the above steps, you may want to attempt installation using an MSI installer. This error might also occur if the logged in user does not have DCOM rights to the local computer. The computer may have been hardened with aggressive security controls. Try to run DCOMCNFG.EXE, go under default security, and add the name of the user you are using to install the TEM Client Historical Number 178 Document information More support for: IBM BigFix family Software version: Version Independent Operating system(s): Platform Independent Software edition: Edition Independent Reference #: 1505961 Modified date: 2014-10-07 Site availability Site assistance Contact and feedback Need support? I'm running Windows 2000 sp4 and trying to install some UPS software supplied by APC but get the following message: "Error Number: 0x80040706. Description: Object reference not set. Setup will now terminate". The software suppliers pointed me here.... http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q110641 .... but this hasn't helped. Even the InstallShield Engine https://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?156732-0x80040706-Object-reference-not-set update fails with the same error !! I've searched through the forums but can't find a definitive answer to fix this (other than re-installing the O/S !!). Can anyone help me ?? Thanks in anticipation. Also in the TaskManager kill all the process related to iDriver.exe and msiexec.exe. Hope this helps. Product: MOVEitDMZ Version: 7.5.x Platform: Windows Server 2008 R2 with IE10 Solution Answer:When installing MOVEit DMZ v.7.5 on Windows 2008 R2 with IE10 installed, towards the end of the install process, the installation fails when it attempts to launch the IE10 browser. error number 0x80040706 This error occurs when doing a new installation, not when upgrading. The installation log shows messages similar to the following: 4-28-2013 23:01:21: Launch IE http://localhost/human.aspx4-28-2013 23:02:33: MOVEit DMZ Installation Abort!!!!!!!!4-28-2013 23:02:33: Err Number:-2147219706 (0x80040706): Object reference not set If you get this error, you will need to run the installation again. At the end of the installation, there is an option to “Launch MOVEit DMZ web session (as the SysAdmin).” By default, this option is selected (the box is checked). Normally, the browser would open and walk you through the steps to set up an organization and add a user. You need to clear this option (un-check the box) in order to complete the installation. You can then open the browser manually, usually pointing to http://localhost, and log in to MOVEit (as SysAdmin), to complete initial organization set-up.
