PcCillin says error number 0x8007043b to update windows to fix known security vulnerabilities. When I do this I get the error 0x8007043B. I went to windows update fix it yourself tool and followed the procedure to start the automatic updates service. That did not work kept getting error 1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service. So I followed the procedure to Add WUAUSERV and BITS to the SvcHost process as the registry did not appear to have these values in the netscvs key. I am pretty sure this was not done correctly as I did not really know how to enter the m into value data entry box. Then I found this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=71054 I followed the procedure outlined in the referenced article (Microsoft KB910337) but cannot seem to get past the 1083 error. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you -- Jay Edit (7:40pm) -- After following the procedure to configure BITS for manual operation I am still unable to start the BITS service. When I tried to download critical updates again I was presented with this message: [Error number: 0x8007043B] The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem. The last line was a link which I followed, and carried out the instructions - which have had no effect. Can someone help please? dmb06851, Mar 11, 2006 #1 Matacumbie Rocky Top Click Start > Run and type net.exe stop wuauserv Press Ok. Steve Matacumbie, Mar 11, 2006 #2 dmb06851 Specialist Thanks a million Steve, that fixed it. Regards. dmb06851, Mar 11, 2006 #3 Matacumbie Rocky Top Your welcome. Glad it worked. Steve Matacumbie, Mar 11, 2006 #4 poppies44 Private E-2 I have same basic problem as dmb06851 on daughter's laptop. No Windows Service Packs have ever been installed. Ran your net.exe and regsvr32 fix (using cut/paste from your reply) and was able to start the Windows Update in Express. It ran too quickly (seconds fo >100 upates). End result said only 2 did not update - one was for Windows 3.1 (who cares?). Using MS Update History it shows many successful updates but far more than 2 are marked for failure with many different error codes. Add/Remove shows only 2 updates (not the 2 above). I am not certain that all of the regsvr32 entries were run - my daughter and I disagree. Can these commands be run a 2nd time with causing problems? Any suggestions will help us for this regsvr32 problem and why Windows Update is not working. As I said, it only ran for seconds and appears to have done virtually nothing. Rich poppies44, Feb 22, 2008 #5 Matacumbie Rocky Top Yes, you can enter the commands again. Steve Matacumbie, F
