Solved WinXP will not install updates [Error number: 0x8024D007] Posted on 2013-09-26 Windows error number XP 5 Verified Solutions 8 Comments 571 Views Last Modified: 2013-10-23 I have a WinXP PC that has stopped installing updates. It seems to be trying to install the "latest version of Windows Update" after "downloading", then "registering". Then I get an error page with [Error number: 0x8024D007]. I assume there is something on this PC that should not be there, error number 0x8024d007 but Kaspersky and MalWareBytes claim that it is malware free. So I have tried registering the DLLs from the MS KB article here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956701 and nothing changed. Also, tried to get the MS FixIT thing to repair it and it was unable to repair it. Anyone got another scanner that I might try or some way to get this PC to start installing updates again? Thanks. 0 Question by:SIDESHOWBLAH Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution bytegenius Have you tried obtaining the latest version of the windows update agent? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104 Go to Solution 8 Comments Message Accepted Solution by:tegenius2013-09-26 Have you tried obtaining the latest version of the windows update agent? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104 0 LVL 17 Overall: Level 17 Windows XP 4 Message Assisted Solution by:sgsm812013-09-26 the %windir%\softwaredistribution\downloads folder is where windows update stores the downloaded updates - take a backup to another location then empty the contents (keep the downloads folder there), reboot and retry 0 LVL 14 Overall: Level 14 Windows XP 1 Message Assisted Solution by:comfortjeanius2013-09-26 You can try Malicious Software Removal Tool or you can run Port
