The system is XP Home edition with SP2. Please have a look at the http://forum.sysinternals.com/wupdate-fails-with-error-code-0x8ddd0002_topic3521.html details of my troubleshooting attempts and let me know if you have any ideas..I went through the five troubleshooting steps provided in the KB article but found some didn't work and others did not seem to apply:1. check you're logged in as administrator - check. I also tried creating a new admin account, then logging into it and try to update from there, no joy.2. delete IE temp files - sure, but doesn't work.3. alter permissions for Windows Update registry entry: done as described (adding a setting for 'everyone'), no joy. Also, I saw nothing unusual with the existing permissions for the admin-user accounts. 4. Change security settings for the c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder: This one's odd because I don't have a security tab in the folder's properties window - only a file sharing tab and that one doesn't allow me to set user permissions. So I cannot set permissions on this folder as it is.Q. Should I have a security tab - and is this an indicator for something being wrong with the folder? 5. rename the catroot2 folder. did so, no joy.Thoughts? K
