Then after a long time checking for the software a got the Error number: 0x8DDD0009. What? Trying to follow the instructions on the page I emptied the cache, restarted the browser and… no still didn't work. Ok, google is my friend. Searching and the error is common. Tried all the advices found on the net run the terminal proxycfg -d net stop wuauserv net start wuauserv didn't work registering again a dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll Finally I tried to remove the ActiveX so when I ask to windows update site, it should discover no ActiveX and install it again. Following a Microsoft advice I went to the C:\windows\downloaded program files but no files were there. So searching again I found that there was a dll to remove C:\windows\system32\wuweb.dll. After removing this dll, reboot the system and going to the windows update site, then it asked me to install again the ActiveX. Now things work right. Update (a week later…) I went back to office after a week end and try to run the weekly updates… traaaaack. Again. 0x8DDD0009. All procedures described above didn't work. I've solved in this way Clear the cache of internet explorer and close the browser. From console net stop wuauserv. Also stop the Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer from the service panel (Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services). remove the following files/directories C:\windows\downloaded program files\WUWebControl Class
C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution unregister the wuweb.dll and rename some other file

recently had to reformat and reload my wife's laptop in the hope to resolve some issues she was having with it. Everything reloads fine. She's running Windows XP Home Edition Sp1. I launch Windows update configure it to use microsoft update. Scan her computer using express and download and install BITS, Windows Installer, Windows XP Update (KB898461), and the windows genuine validation tool. Everything installs fine and then I reboot. I laucnh microsoft update when the laptop reboots and select express. The scan takes about 15-30 minutes to complete and I get an error 0X8DDD009. I can't figure out whats wrong. I've even reformated and reloaded the oS again and got the same error at the same point. Please help. Guest, Apr 22, 2007 #1 Advertisements TaurArian [MS-MVP] Guest One possibility - msi.dll may be the wrong verison. Try downloading Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&DisplayLang=en If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some files: 1. Click Start. 2. Choose Run. 3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :- net stop wuauserv Repeat for the following: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wuweb.dll regsvr32 MSXML3.dll regsvr32 qmgr.dll regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll net start wuauserv Windows Update newsgroup: (OE newsreader) news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate or (Web) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&lang=en&cr=US You'll probably need SP2 as well Windows XP Service Pack 2 - download (for single PCs also) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en SP2 CD can be ordered online. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx Are You Ready for WinXP SP2? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=windowsxpsp2 -- ==================================== TaurArian [
