Dont know how it happened but I got hit by something. When I start up I get the 'runtime error 35756 unable to complete request' https://rezstream.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/223722628--Run-time-error-35756-internet-transfer-control-or-Run-time-error-35756-unable-to-complete-request as well as another lovely window saying 'TCP/IP network transport is not installed'. Never saw that one before. So i did my norton scans and it found 7 things and was able to delete 2 of them. I downloaded AVAST and it said it deleted something like 12 more; sorry I dont remember exactly how many. Then I googled that runtime number. Found this site and a thread with a similiar problem. https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-also-hit-by-runtime-error-35756.565370/ I downloaded, installed and ran Hijackthis and will include my log. I am completely unable to access the internet through that comuter; otherwise it appears to work fine. The specs on this oldie but goodie are: win xp pro, 900mhz, 512 ram and not much else. My year in Iraq made me not as tech savvy as I used to be so any help is greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, does it help to say the 'work offline / try again' dialog box keeps popping up every minute or so? After a short time a logfile will turn up. Copy the contents of the log into the thread. Notice: Some security-programs prevent the creation of dummy drivers with certain names. This may cause false positives. If the log of rootchk contains a lot of hidden drivers, you may want to turn of your security programs while rootchk is scanning (you should then unhook your network connection as well) cybertech, Apr 23, 2007 #2 brian_got_hit Thread Starter Joined: Apr 22, 2007 Messages: 38 ok this is what i go
error Error 35756 Unable to Complete request" both in a new VB6 program under development and in an old one ( ie an exe file ) that has not been changed for months. The error appears to be in the ITC which http://www.xtremevbtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-170451.html I believe is wininet.dll ( I have tried downloading a new version of wininet.dll into windows/system32 https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/511533f4-abe3-42e1-9b9c-4bb8a6406f55/runtime-error-35756?forum=Offtopic but it won't let me ) Two questions 1. Any clues as to the problem? 2. How can I replace wininet.dll to at least eliminate it as the problem, in case it has become corrupted? ( The folder appears to totally resist any method of replacing with this particular dll - I delete it, overwrite it etc and the original copy is still error number there even though properties suggest it is NOT read only! is this a clever Microsoft strategy? ) I am beginning to panic .... Banjo05-30-2004, 09:09 AMWhich line of code is generating the error? bobcory05-30-2004, 09:26 AMWhich line of code is generating the error? strResponse = Inet1.OpenURL("http://www.stuff.com/responder.asp?stuff") also inet1.GetChunk(1024, icString) So looks like the Inet is the problem. As I say, an exe written months ago is suddenly affected too Many thanks Banjo05-30-2004, 09:42 AMWell, since that url does error number 35756 not exist, I'm guessing that's your problem. bobcory05-30-2004, 10:12 AMWell, since that url does not exist, I'm guessing that's your problem. That was purely as an illustration - the actual URL is one of my private sites. I have tried it with a variety of different URLs and get the same fault. Banjo05-30-2004, 12:16 PMGive me an example that you have tried and that failed. bobcory05-30-2004, 04:52 PMGive me an example that you have tried and that failed. I can only repeat myself. An exe file which used to run on my computer has suddenly stopped running and is giving a failure number 35756 ( an Inet failure ) as reported earlier. THIS PARTICULAR EXE RUNS FINE ON ONE OF MY OTHER COMPUTERS when I copied it across an hour ago. At the same time the program I am developing has stopped running. It is quite clear that Inet is the problem. I have even built a new two line program in VB6 where Inet fails to work. Running the following gives strTest = "" strTest = Inet1.OpenURL( "http://www.google.com" ) In other words INET HAS STOPPED WORKING on one of my machines. Hence my attempt to replace wininet.dll. Not only has .openURL stopped working but .execute too ( I use several Inets on various forms and they have ALL suddenly stopped working - they have all worked fine for months until today ) bobcory
