Thanking you in advance, Glenn. longneck 2009-11-20 03:01:57 UTC #2 your data folder and mysql configuration file are probably in non-default locations and innodb operating system error number 5 in a file operation. linux you are not using the --defaults-file option to specify the path to the configuration file. you have two options: use the --defaults-file option to specify the path to your configuration file instead of starting mysql from the command line, add skip-grant-table to your configuration file and start the server normally. log in and reset the password. remove skip-grant-tables and restart the server to return to normal operation. gclarkson 2009-11-20 08:17:24 UTC #3 Thank you longneck. I discovered that the problem was indeed Microsoft! I needed to run mysqld.exe under admin privileges. Once I did that the the password changed and all I needed to do was restart MySQL as a service and login using the reset password. Very many thanks for you help and support. Best regards, Glenn. Actually got the site half-up, but having problems, and don't know the error codes well enough to it not to be mostly gobbledygook. You can find out the source of these errors with 'perror'. i.e. toaster:~ morgo$ perror 13 OS error code 13: Permission denied InnoDB has corruption detection (page checksums) and would happily tell you if that were the problem. Either the directory permissions have changed, or your my.cnf file has been hosed, and it's trying to recreate data files somewhere else. share|improve this answer answered Oct 27 '10 at 19:45 Morgan Tocker 2,2311330 Ok, so how can I set the correct permission for this file? –dombesz Oct 13 '11 at 10:29 4 It's more likely an incorrect user/group than it is r/w. From the official INSTALL-BINARY: shell> chown -R mysql . shell> chgrp -R mysql . shell> scripts/mysql_install_db --user=mysql # remove this step. shell> chown -R root . shell> chown -R mysql data –Morga
