March http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/Error-processing-command-when-trying-to-delete-or-restart-a/td-p/1823071 17, 2007 -- latestarters The glitch I had in printing was that I was unable to cancel a bad print job from the printing queue. It simply sat in front of the queue of print jobs without being printed or deleted. I am running Windows XP Professional, however, this experience may happen on all Windows operating systems. The reason for this glitch is https://latestarters.wordpress.com/2007/03/17/trouble-deleting-or-canceling-a-print-job-in-windows/ that the print manager was not able to delete the spooler file caching the print job. Therefore, the solution is to remove the print job manually. 1. Locate the print job under the print spooler directory. It's usually under %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERSwhere %SystemRoot% is the installation directory of Windows OS. 2. You can find the files according to time stamp and size, and try to delete them, however, it usually doesn't work because there is a lock on these files by the "Print Spooler" service. 3. Click "Control Panel" -> "Administrative Tools" -> "Services" and find "Print Spooler". The "Status" column shows "Started". Right click the service to "Stop" it. 4. Leave the "Services" open and go back to the directory in Step 1 to delete those files. 5. Go back to the "Services" windows and right click the "Print Spooler" service to "Start" it again. Now happy printing again! Like this:Like Loading... Related Posted in computer, printing, technology, Windows XP. 19 Comments » 19 Responses to "Trouble deleting or canceling a print job inWindows?" The file will appear to go to the printer and I get the printer icon, but then after a short time I get a "failure to print" message. In the printer dialogue box I get an "error printing" message and also the message Error processing command. When I try to delete the print job it appears to start the deleting process but then hangs there. I can remove the print job by stopping and starting the print spooler but as soon as I try to print again the problem recurs. This has happened many times to both laptops, and a problem with one doesn't necessarily mean that the other one won't print. Today I connected my laptop directly to the printer and had the same problem, so I don't think the problem lies with the print server. Occasionally the problem has righted itself - after the computer or the printer has been turned off for a while, but sometimes it can take forever to get things working again. Any help would be great!! jenny596, #1 2010/05/12 vikinglove Inactive Joined: 2010/05/04 Messages: 8 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 76 Computer Experience: Intermediate This may sound off-the-wall, but I had the same problem where I had to go to HP and update the drivers manually because they were not installing from Microsoft. Are the drivers up-to-dat
