I have used try..catch statements to trap exceptions and display messages on the error found, but the problem is that these messages are too technical for the end users to understand. Is there a way https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973849.aspx of retrieving the error number or code of that exceptions thrown so that i can customize the message for the users? Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0 Back to top MultiQuote Quote + Reply Replies To: User friendly error reporting in vb applications #2 sela007 D.I.C Addict Reputation: 138 Posts: 841 Joined: 21-December 11 Re: User friendly error reporting in vb applications Posted http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/topic/269977-user-friendly-error-reporting-in-vb-applications/ 08 March 2012 - 07:15 AM You can get error number like this. Sure declare a public error code variable, and create yourself a function which returns a string based on the input error code. Public Function ErrCodeToString(Byval Errcode as integer) as string select case Errcode case 100 return "Invalid name!" end select End Function This post has been edited by trevster344: 08 March 2012 - 08:51 AM Was This Post Helpful? 0 Back to top MultiQuote Quote + Reply #4 sela007 D.I.C Addict Reputation: 138 Posts: 841 Joined: 21-December 11 Re: User friendly error reporting in vb applications Posted 08 March 2012 - 08:14 AM trevster344, on 08 March 2012 - 08:06 AM, said:Sela does that code make sense to you? I have made a Google Forms response form here. Is it possible to use the WebBrowser Control functions to paste a string into the TextBox in there and then click the button to submit it, all automatically? Would it be better to use a different submission form service than this? I know that it uses complicated JavaScript to code everything. If it would be better to use a custom HTML website, how would error reporting vb.net you interact with that (I can probably figure out how to code the HTML itself)? The user has only to press the button. Then if you have already an infrastructure to write a log file you could also add an attachment to the mail to get all the story. –Steve May 7 '14 at 12:25 Exactly this is what I'm struggling with.....
