What exactly happens when you send that, both on your computer and at Microsoft? Will Microsoft forward the report to the developers if it's not on their end? And why does this not happen on every crash? windows-error-reporting share|improve this question edited Mar 6 at 4:23 fixer1234 11.2k122949 asked Jan 30 '14 at 15:33 Nzall 88921026 Developers have to go through a process to get this infomration. –Ramhound Jan 30 '14 at 15:37 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted WER (Windows Error Reporting) is a framework that Microsoft has set up to allow 3rd party developers (and Microsoft) improve the "user experience". Every third party developer participating in the WER framework must define properties of the types of crashes it would like to collect from its users. Among those is the number of crash dumps to collect. Additionally, Microsoft will not automatically collect crash dumps until it has decided that the dump is not a one-time occurrence. Even then, the user has total control of the WER experience. The user can decide

What you can do (as a minor fix) is to disable the System Restore, and do a Windows update. (www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com, and tell it to scan your computer.) Also, you will need to go to your PC manufacturer's support website (i.e. www.gateway.com/support) and download all driver updates and install them. Do you have a/n current, updated antivirus program on your PC? If not, you will need to buy one (Do NOT buy anything from Symantec/Norton... it's a lousy program.) If you need a free antivirus, you can download AVG antivirus (www.free.grisoft.com/doc/1)As a last resort, ( and a bit extreme) you may have to format and reinstall your hard disk, but from what I see it hasn't gotten that far yet.Hope this helps.Gateway 800 Performance PC Windows XP MS Windows 9x/2K/ME/XP, Mac OS 7, 8, X, Linux Debian & Gnome Helpful (1) Reply options Link to
