SP1 on a computer that has MS05-004 installed ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Aaron StebnerAugust 2, 20056 0 0 0 I recently encountered a .NET Framework setup problem that is not described in my previously published .NET Framework hotfix/service pack troubleshooting guide while doing some testing for the upcoming version of Windows Media Center. I installed a computer with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, the .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework hotfix 886904 (MS05-004). https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/922377 Then I went to Windows Update and found that it detected that I needed to install the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 and it classified this as a high-priority update. When I tried to install it from Windows Update, it failed for me with a generic "installation failed" error message. Of course, being the setup geek https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2005/08/02/how-to-fix-error-installing-net-framework-1-1-sp1-on-a-computer-that-has-ms05-004-installed/ that I am, I wanted to figure out what was happening behind the scenes. So I downloaded the setup package for the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 from this location and ran it with full UI (instead of letting Windows Update run it for me in silent mode). When I did this, I saw this error message: This error message started me on the right track to find the solution to my problem. I decided to check in Add or Remove Programs first to see if there were any hotfixes for .NET Framework 1.1 listed, and I found one named Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 hotfix (KB886904). Once I uninstalled that hotfix and rebooted, I was able to return to Windows Update and successfully install the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. Ordinarily, .NET Framework service packs have logic built into their setup packages to automatically uninstall hotfixes and then apply the SP. That was not possible in this scenario because the fix for MS05-004 was

installation of .NET 1.1 will be cancelled, while clicking “CANCEL” produces another error message similar to below: RegSvcs.exe - No debugger found Registered JIT debugger is not available. Please check settings. cardbg.exe !a 9×8e Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1(Service Pack 1) has resolved the issue. However, Microsoft does not provide download to standalone .NET Framework 1.1 installer that integrated with SP1. To fix this, we need to follow the following steps, which is called slipstreaming. We need to sliptstream .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 into .NET Framework 1.1 installer, so that both the .NET Framework and the Service Pack can be installed at the same time. Follow these steps: 1. Create a new folder named DotNet in C:\ drive. (The path i used was C:\DotNet ) 2. Download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package (dotnetfx.exe). Make sure the setup file is saved as dotnetfx.exe. 3. Download Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (NDP1.1sp1-KB867460- X86.exe). Rename the file to dotnetfxsp1.exe. 4. Copy both installation files into the same directory (i.e. C:\DotNet),. 5. Open Command Prompt as Administrator. 6. Change to the directory where the two installation files are stored, ie C:\DotNet. 7. Run the following commands one by one. -> dotnetfx.exe /c:"msiexec.exe /a netfx.msi TARGETDIR=C:\DotNet" Click on Yes and wait for this dialog which says installation complete. -> dotnetfxsp1.exe /Xp:C:\DotNet\netfxsp.msp -> msiexec.exe /a c:\DotNet\netfx.msi /p c:\DotNet\netfxsp.msp Wait for the installer to disappear automatically. 8. Install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 with slipstreamed Service Pack 1 by running netfx.msi from the working folder. Dotnet Framework 1.1 is successfully installed.🙂 Like this:Like Loading...
