The first question I ask when I get these specific cases is "Does the admin account have exchange 2013 error 500 a mailbox"? In pretty much every case that I can remember, the response is "No". And immediately, I know exactly where to look! A little history… As https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd439375(v=exchg.80).aspx you may know, because of the design of Exchange 2013 - the CAS role simply locates your mailbox, then proxies the request back to your mailbox server - an "anchor mailbox" is used. This anchor mailbox is simply your Exchange GUID, and is used for a number of reasons in Exchange 2013 connectivity. The most obvious, though, are: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/brenle/2015/05/02/http-500-internal-server-error-when-logging-into-exchange-2013-exchange-control-panel-ecp/ As mentioned above, so that an Exchange 2013 CAS knows what mailbox server to proxy a request to To prevent the 'Your administrator has made a change so you must restart Outlook' message that you get when a mailbox is moved to a different site. You can see evidence of the anchor mailbox when you configure an Outlook profile for an Exchange 2013 mailbox:
Notice the ExchangeGuid is used as the 'Server' in the outlook profile, instead of an actual server name. OK that's great and all, but what does that have to do with thisstatus 500that I'm getting? Well, let's think about it. If the Exchange 2013 CAS needs to know where to proxy a request, but the request is coming from an account that has no mailbox, and thus no ExchangeGuid associated with it, how does Exchange know which mailbox server to proxy? In instances like this, Exchange 2013 uses the ExchangeGuid of system mailboxes to determine where to proxy the rreply codesSometimes your SMTP server may return a particular error message. The problem is that it will generally be very cryptic, like "550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable" or "421 Try again later". What http://www.serversmtp.com/en/smtp-error does these numbers mean?First of all: not any reply code is an error. http://csc-us.1and1.org/learn/web-server/server-management/how-to-fix-http-error-code-500-internal-server-error/ Sometimes it's just a response containing a detail about the server or an answer to a command. Secondly: any code consist of three digits, and each conveys a particular information. The first one defines whether the server has accepted the command, fulfilled an action, run into a temporary issue, encountered an error etc; the second and exchange 2013 the third one refine the description further, stating if there's been a syntactic problem, or a connection trouble etc.Unfortunately, different servers sometimes use these codes in a different way, making the whole thing even more complicated... Anyhow, the most critical series of error messages is the 5xx one, and especially the ones from 550 to 559. In particular, you will probably get a lot of 550 SMTP error codes – an http 500 that is, a problem that concerns the recipient's email address. Finally, remember that it's much easier to deal with these error codes if you choose to rely on a professional SMTP server that will help you solve any issue. turboSMTP, for instance, comes with a 24/7 customer support: you can try it free and forget once for all these issues. And here's a list of the main SMTP error or reply messages, with an explanation and a tip about what to do.
