Mt.exe Visual Studio 2015
Hi I am running following command from my post build event: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\mt.exe -manifest "$(ProjectDir)$(TargetName).exe.manifest" -updateresource:"$(TargetDir)$(TargetName).exe;#1" It is failing with Exited with code 9009... I don't understand why this happens; any suggestions? visual-studio post-build-event share|improve this question edited Jan 13 '11 at 5:39 Cody Gray 146k23279370 asked Jan 13 '11 at 5:22 Sutikshan Dubey 2,61763558 Possible duplicate of What does "exited with code 9009" mean during this build? –Michael Freidgeim mt.exe download Mar 17 at 6:09 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 17 down vote accepted Try adding quotes around the mt.exe path, e.g.: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\mt.exe" Also, make sure that path is valid. Hope this helps. I've been beating my head against code 9009 all day and a full quoted path seem to make it work. share|improve this answer edited Aug 21 '14 at 11:43 Jeroen 24.9k1675120 answered Feb 1 '11 at 17:13 james 1,275615 This worked for my mpress.exe Post Build event. –deerchao Dec 12 '11 at 13:17 2 I never knew why people didn't like spaces in directory/file names. Now I do... –Nolonar May 3 '13 at 9:31 You saved my day :) –Dmitry Bogatykh Oct 1 '14 at 6:36 add a comment| up vote 6 down vote Exit code 9009 is a file not found error. The spaces that exist in your path to the post build command cause errors in a command prompt unless you include quotes around the entire path and executable name. Essentially, in your post-build command, it is trying to execute C:\Program with the arguments: Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\mt.exe -manifest "$(ProjectDir)$(TargetName).exe.manifest" -updateresource:"$(TargetDir)$(TargetName).exe;#1" Since obviously you don't have a file called Program residing in your root directory, this entire command fails. The problem occurred in either http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4677055/visual-studio-post-build-event-mt-exe-command-fails-with-code-9009 of the following scenarios: Rebuild Solution Clean followed by Build Solution If I did a second Build after either of these, the problem did not show up. Using Google, all I really came up with was year-old blogs from Microsoft saying they are unable to reproduce the problem, or that it is fixed in a future release. The best thing I found was here: Mikazo Tech Blog: Solve MT.exe Errors in Visual Studio 2010 In the above article it said http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16680717/error-msb6006-mt-exe-exited-with-code-31 that the problem is related to Manifest generation, and that the solution is to turn off Manifests in settings under Linker-->Manifest. I don't need Manifests for this project, but I still wasn't satisfied. I have solved this, and am simply going to answer my own question, because I haven't found this specific error (code 31) on StackOverflow. visual-studio-2010 share|improve this question asked May 21 '13 at 22:43 paddy 34.8k42461 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest votes up vote 31 down vote accepted Using process monitor and dbgview I discovered msmpeng (Microsoft Security Essentials) was accessing the file, just when mt.exe wanted to have it exclusively. Excluding the development directory solved the problem. It is still a workaround of course. share|improve this answer edited May 29 '13 at 13:08 Pankrates 2,42611326 answered May 29 '13 at 12:46 user1839019 32622 I haven't verified this, but it seems like the most plausible solution so far =) –paddy Oct 29 '13 at 7:08 I had this issue and this was the cause. However, my solution was to change the Output dir and Intermediate dir to be a directory that's not scanned by the anti virus (I'm on a corporate network and can't configure my anti virus). –ytoledano Feb 1 '15 at 15:51 Just for verification; this solution works! Thank you! :) –Rami A. Nov 6 '15 at 9:38 The sa

I enter a value of "$(OutDir)\regsvr32.trg" in the upper textbox then click OK. Now for some reason VS 2010 changes the display text to show "$(OutDir
