Here's the command from the Output window: copy /Y "C:\Workspace\MyProject\Library\Gecko\XulRunner\*.*" "C:\Workspace\MyProject\bin\Debug\" When I paste that command on the command line, it works properly with no error message. Most of the same issues I've found were caused by not surrounding the paths with quotes, or by http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25041423/visual-studio-post-build-event-exited-with-code-1 trying to copy over read-only files. However, since the command does run successfully in the command line I'm not really sure how to debug this. Is there a way I can get more details about the failure? visual-studio-2013 share|improve this question edited Jul 30 '14 at 16:13 asked Jul 30 '14 at 15:54 Mike Cole 6,1371782158 1 Do you really need the *.* after the $(TargetDir)? I have something like your command but I have no *.* –Steve Jul 30 '14 at 16:01 It appears that I do not need it, so I removed it. However, the original problem still exists. –Mike Cole Jul 30 '14 at 16:12 If you don't see an error message in the Output window then there's little to guess at. Do favor XCOPY, it fails in a more diagnosable way and, above all, avoids making needless copies with /D –Hans Passant Jul 30 '14 at 16:18 Is it possible that some file to be overwritten is locked in the TargetDir?. Just for test you could try to copy in a subfolder of the TargetDir. –Steve Jul 30 '14 at 16:20 @HansPassant, It appears using XCopy with the /D switch was the solutio

But this command can work fine in my side. I guess you maybe give a wrong path. Which VS you used to build project? Could you exited with code please provide us with the sample project? I create a VC++ console application in VS2013. I set its post-build command: copy $(ProjectDir)Debug\VCConsol.FA7A470F.tlog $(TargetDir) I check the folder of"TargetDir path. All the files in VCConsol.FA7A470F.tlog foler copy to the "TargetDir" path. Anyway, you can check the value of $(ProjectDir) is in your side. You can check if it stands for "D:\SugarOutlook_2010\SugarOutlook\". right click on your project in the Solution Explorer, select Propertiesselect the Build Events tabclick the Edit pre-build or Edit post-build button, either is finein the window that pops up, click the Macros buttonscroll down the list till you find ProjectDir, in the next pane is its actual value If the value of "TargetDir" doesn't mean "D:\SugarOutlook_2010\SugarOutlook\", please give a correct path.
