Do you know how do I enable my FC4 GUI and begin using Linux? mlf View Public Profile Find all posts by mlf #2 3rd November 2005, 08:33 PM b_martinez Offline Registered User Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Pueblo,Colorado Posts: 724 Are you booting into a command line environment? Join Date Jan 2007 Posts 1 X windows problem fatal io error in Vmware I installed vmware 5.5 and installed red hat 9.0 but had problems starting X. I tried again over the weekend to install another version of redhat. I installed version 8.0 but go the same problem. The documentation from installing the OS in Vmware says that the vmware tools should be installed before running X. the link below gave a step by step on how to install the vmware tools. http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/d...html#wp1118185 I followed the “Installing VMware Tools from the Command Line with the RPM Installer” and when I issued the command “vmware-config-tools.pl” at the shell prompt, it gave me some text that scrolled. I was looking for how I could get the text that scrolls through. I saw a feature in vmware that creates a movie capture of the screen. I scrolled through and saw the following “the configuration file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config is a broken symlink. X configuration skipped” This is probably why I am having problems I guess. What do you think?, and how can I solve this. when i issues the command startx or xinit, i get the following as part of a message (==) Log file: "/var/log/XFree86.0.log", Time: Tue Jan 2 16:58:05 2007 (EE) Unable yo locate/open config file (EE) Error from xf86HandleConfigFile() Fatal Server er
with using USB devices. Today, I detatched one and then shut down the computer. When I turned it back on later I found that Linux would no longer boot and instead I was presented with this message and the prompt: "Fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer_ on X Server "0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining" It also tells me to consult the "var/xorg.0.log" for more information, but as my linux knowledge is still very reliant on the graphical front end I don't know how to do this. When I try to run the command "StartX" it tries to start linux, mentions something about the fonts being messed up and then goes back to the command prompt. What is the quickest and most painless way for me to get Mandriva up and running again?
