I assume you're booting from the Windows XP CD? If this happens after the setup screen has appeared, check this article for a fix http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315338 spongmonkey View Public Profile Find all posts by spongmonkey #3 January 26th, 2005, 03:25 PM Bahset Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Posts: 86 do you get every time the problem at the same file ? tested it already with another XP cd ? It could be your HD, your MB or CD DRIVE. Well the CD ROM DRIVE is doin ok i think, you should try check your HD if that is ok also, then try your MB, i have seen this problem before and the MB was crashed. But like i said you first need to know if the problem occurs at 1 file or is i

Problems Trying To Repair Windows From Cd - Various Errors http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34757 Started by rondragon , Feb 26 2009 12:21 PM Please log in to reply 4 replies to this topic #1 rondragon rondragon Junior TEG Forum Member Members 1 posts Posted 26 February 2009 - 12:21 PM Hi, I have built my own PC that I've had for about 10years now and recently upgraded the RAM, CPU fan, hard drives (original 20GB hard drive is used for OS) and PSU. Every 3 or so times I start file i386 the PC there is an automatic reboot prior to Windows loading or once Windows has loaded I get the 'Windows recovered from a serious error' message. I also got a STOP error once which mentioned a driver: tmcomm.sys which I believe is Trend Micro which I've since deleted as I don't use that software but the problem persists. I then tried to repair windows by booting from the Windows CD but each time I seem to get file i386 vgaoem a different error. 1st time: usbstor.sys is corrupt 2nd: usbccgp.sys is corrupt 3rd: FILE \i386\vgaoem.fon could not be loaded. The error code is 7 Then I ran CHKDSK /R using the Recovery Console and then tried to boot from the Windows CD but the errors kept coming! 4th time: INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 8192 5th time: vga.sys is corrupted I've tried to view the minidump file via WinDbg but it says the file is corrupt! I don't have a problem when the PC is actually running but there is clearly a problem that needs sorting. I am running XP SP3 and I regularly check for malware / viruses. Please help. You say you run the OS off the original 20 GB hard drive. If that one is 10 years old too, I'd look into replacing that one. Ten years is over-aged for a HDD. Have you tried running System File Checker?Start -> Run -> type sfc /scannow -> hit enter (or click OK)Please note the space between sfc and the slash /.Be patient while SFC runs. You may be asked for your XP Install Disc.More info on SFC here.Another option short of a
