problem? #1 larryc43230 Wandering but seldom lost Group: +Premium Members Posts: 2254 Joined: 25-April 06 Posted 07 garmin express not finding device September 2014 - 12:27 PM Garmin Express is telling me that Garmin Lifetime Map Update 2015.20 is available. When I click the "Install" button, I get the usual warning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaGmNsj9BlU that "Express cannot install this map update directly to your device" (an Oregon 650). I click OK, accept the terms and conditions, then click the big "Install All" button at the top right of the window. A gray progress bar appears near the top of the application window; in the Details section, it gives the file size as 2.8 http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=325921 GB, with an estimated installation time of 58 minutes. Then the window just sits there. For hours. Last night, I left the program running overnight, and by morning it looked exactly the same. Nothing is downloaded, and there's no progress shown in the progress bar. I've tried this maybe half a dozen times over the past few days, with exactly the same (non) result. I eventually just exit Garmin Express, since nothing is happening. Anyone else tried to download the 2015.20 update? Anyone had any success? Anyone else getting the same result I'm getting? Check your Download folder for an older version of this file. Terry and I were able to successfully update our Garmin Mobile PC (the hardware version with GPS 10x receiver) installations with fresh map data using an older GarminMapUpdater_v2.7.10.exe file. SnoBear The updater program gives me two choices for the device to update. If I choose Mobile PC I garmin express get that error message. If I choose the GPS device it downloads to the PC just fine. I then have to send the new maps to Mobile PC via Mapsource. That has always the only way I could get new maps to Mobile PC. When I download new maps to my Nuvi 765, every thing works as you would expect. Worked this way on a 32 bit Vista laptop and now on a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. I there was an dunno ... Brad tcassidy I successfully updated Mobile PC (hardware version) maps on computers running Win XP, Win 7-32 and Win 7-64 using the older updater Marvin listed. How do you send the maps to Mobile PC via MapSource if they are only unlocked for your Nuvi? Terry SnoBear I have lifetime updates for both the Nuvi and Mobile PC. It would be nice if I only had to do the download once, but I haven't figured that out ... Brad tcassidy I agree with that. However, what I was wondering was how you unlocked the product in MapSource for Mobile PC without downloading the Mobile PC copy? Do you use the code on the MyGarmin page for Mobile PC? That code would not be there if you hadn't at least attempted to download the product. Terry SnoBear I do have to download the updated maps twice. Once for the Nuvi and once for the GPS puck. If I try to download for Mobile PC, I get the error from the top of this thread. Brad tcassidy Do you mean that your GPS (ie 20x) actually appears in the list of devices connected to the computer as in the screenshot below (I can't duplicate that as my BT 10x does not)? If so, you are already downloading the image for Mobile PC because that is what the 20x is associated with. Did you check Mobile PC Tools
is what I get everytime I try to use the Garmin Lifetime Updater: NOTE There was an error installing your maps. Please try again. If problems continue, Please contact Garmin customer support. Many users have had multiple issues with the lifetime map updater. It's my understanding that each map is tied to the individual unit. If you have 2 units both w/lifetime maps, it would still need to be 2 separate downloads.
