Software update fails› Garmin Nuvi 2797LMT IopPaulCharleston Original question asked on Apr 1, 2015, 11:31am When updating the software for my nuvi 2797 using Garmin Express v4.0.12.0 on Win7, it makes it through the software install and restart but when I plug it back in according to the instructions GE and it starts preparing for the map update a message is displayed in a red box above the update selection: There was an error installing the update. I believe the device software it is trying to install is version 4.80. In my case, this message showed up the moment the disc was full (due to Garmin Express writing temporary stuff). After reserving a "tiny" 12GB, the process was able to update my Garmin successfully. I http://www.gpscity.com/questions?qid=49482 tried reinstalling the current map again and it stops before 73% installed and it starts over again at 50%. I don't know what to do now. It shows the most current version map, but it never installed completely using Garmin Express. ‹ Nuvi 370 and cyclops nuvi 34xx Version 6.30 › Login or register to post comments sponsored links Thu, 10/15/2015 - 11:22am http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45263 t923347 9 years May May want to have another look as the update is being discussed at: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/45261 Granted the ? at the end of the thread title maybe a bit confusing. --Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD and TomTom XXL540s, HereWeGo for Android. have a Garmin Nuvi 2797 and would like to download the maps to my computer. My end goal is to unlock these maps and apply them to my http://gl1800riders.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-261073.html GW's on-board GPS, but I may install BaseCamp and give that a try http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=325921 too. I have Garmin Express installed on my PC and do the Map Options step and then request to download the maps to my computer. It runs for a few seconds and then shows a red banner which reads: There was an error installing the update. I've contacted Garmin support, garmin express but they keep telling me to call their phone support - but I'm not available during the times they're open. I've tried with the 2797 connected to the computer and with it not, but the same result in either case. I've verified that there is plenty of disk space (both on the drive where I'm asking the download to be saved as well garmin map update as the C: where Garmin wants to copy its files). I'm using the latest version of Garmin Express (4.1.13.0) on a Windows 7 Professions, 64-bit machine. Do I need to have BaseCamp installed for this to work? It was my understanding that this download was supposed to provide me with the BaseCamp installer - so I don't have BaseCamp installed yet. Any other ideas? Thanks, Big_Bird01-23-2016, 11:14 PMI don't think Express will do a thing for you to update the onboard GPS. The map license is attached to the device. So your 2797 should update fine, and that will let you update the computer, but none of that carries over to the onboard device. I bet if you install Base camp first you'll be find getting the maps on the computer via Express. Rambler35801-23-2016, 11:24 PMYou can download Basecamp directly from Garmin's site: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435 MarkEHansen01-23-2016, 11:47 PMThere's another thread on this site which talks about downloading Garmin's maps to the PC, using an unlock tool on them and then being able to install them on the data card used by the GoldWing. I'm trying to follow that. MarkEH

When I click the "Install" button, I get the usual warning that "Express cannot install this map update directly to your device" (an Oregon 650). I click OK, accept the terms and conditions, then click the big "Install All" button at the top right of the window. A gray progress bar appears near the top of the application window; in the Details section, it gives the file size as 2.8 GB, with an estimated installation time of 58 minutes. Then the window just sits there. For hours. Last night, I left the program running overnight, and by morning it looked exactly the same. Nothing is downloaded, and there's no progress shown in the progress bar. I've tried this maybe half a dozen times over the past few days, with exactly the same (non) result. I eventually just exit Garmin Express, since nothing is happening. Anyone else tried to download the 2015.20 update? Anyone had any success? Anyone else getting the same result I'm getting? Anyone know of another way to get the update? --Larry Back to top of the page up there ^ #2 sussamb Premium Member Group: +Premium Members Posts: 2684 Joined: 15-July 11 Posted 07 September 2014 - 01:12 PM Worked for me but if it's not for you try the older MapUpdater http://download.garm...nMapUpdater.exe Back to top of the page up there ^ #3 larryc43230 Wandering but seldom lost Group: +Premium Members Posts: 2254 Joined: 25-April 06 Posted 07 September 2014 - 05:51 PM sussamb, on 07 September 2014 - 01:12 PM, said: Worked for me but if it's not for you try the older MapUpdater http://download.garm...nMapUpdater.exe Thanks for the pointer. I had an older version of Map Updater, but had forgotten all about it after using Garmin Express for so long. I downloaded the latest version (3.3.3), and it successfully downloaded the new map for me. It's now installed on my Garmin 650. I've never had much luck with Garmin Express, and I'm once again considering uninstalling it. Either it doesn't even begin to download new maps (as happened this time), or, even more frustrating, it appears to download a new map (taking half an hour or more to do so), then throws up some error message
