I believe the device software it is trying to install is version 4.80. In my case, this message showed up the moment the disc was full (due to Garmin Express writing temporary stuff). After reserving a "tiny" 12GB, the process was able to update my Garmin successfully. I did and tried the update, but get the garmin express same error you are seeing. Hopefully someone will help. Login or register to post comments Thu, 08/06/2015 - 12:54am rcrater 1 year Fixed Every time I went to try the install again from within Garmin Express it seemed to start the file at around 50% and then error out. My suspicion was that the downloaded file was messed up. So I changed the options and told it to download to both my PC and device. It still failed. So then I told it to download only to my PC and it worked. So I figured it had the file now, but installing to just the device still didn't work. There was now also an option to "Reinstall Maps to Device", but that didn't work either. So I was on the hunt for the partial/corrupted file. I went into C:\Program Files 9x86)\Garmin and looked around. I saw the map file it loaded to my PC in a Maps folder, but couldn't find the device map corrupted file. But in the Garmin folder I found an executable MapInstall.exe file. When I ran that it showed me my current map, and listed the newer map file to install. I selected it and it installed! I
updatingmaps? Posted on September 29, 2013 by touron2wheels Garmin is trying to push Garmin Express as THE program to manage your Gamin Zumo regarding updates, map updates and content control. Since the last few map updates Gamin Express has been messing up my Garmin Zumo 660: after the map update I get errors like "Can't unlock maps" or " Maps can't be verified". In order to resolve I had every time to spend hours to reinstall, read postings on the error messages, and what more. Yesterday I had spend approx. 6 hours to try and update the maps on my Zumo to the new 2014.20 Europe, and today I have spend another 5 hours till I got it fixed. That is close to 1.5 working day for something which should be smooth going. Garmin: get your acts together and give us a decent program! Aside of the lack of robustness of Garmin Express, it is a nightmare to get the new map installed on your computer too so that making new routes in BaseCamp goes with minimal lag when zooming in/out and moving around the map. My final solution was to move away from Garmin Express, and return to the old world of Garmin Lifetime Map Updater. With this old program on my iMac all went as smooth as it always has gone; 1 update run was sufficient to get my Zumo 660 updated AND to get the map also installed on my iMac for smooth use of BaseCamp. Following you need to do when going this route of updating: close Garmin Express: right click on the Mac on the dark blue triangle in the top line of your screen, and select Close Garmin Express when you still have Garmin Lifetime Map Updater on your computer and it is running (which you can see on the lighter blue triangle in the top row of your Mac), then right click it and select Reinstall maps right click it again and select "View Map-update status" a screen will open, and you can select now that update needs to be done to both your Zumo and your Mac let it run, and your set!
