Dell Diagnostics Hard Drive Not Detected
2007 16:05 A code 79 means the hard drive has failed, usually to bad sectors. Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Posted by cowlegs on 14 Feb 2007 16:37 Does that mean the HD needs to be replaced?I was able to install the hard drive as a slave in another computer, and was able to copy my documents onto the primary. I then formated the drive. Thanks again Like 0 Reply dell diagnostics hard drive not installed You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Posted by Majestic on 14 Feb 2007 17:58 Yes, it means that it needs to be replaced. Although you were able to slave the hard drive and recover files, the bad sector the diagnostics is referring to maybe the boot sector of the drive. That would prevent the hard drive from booting up an operating system. Once the drive starts to produce bad sectors, you can almost guarantee that more will follow until the drive is unusable even as a slave.Message Edited by Majestic on 02-14-2007 12:03 PM Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Everything was fine, until I turned it on and it wouldn't start up, it keep cycling asking me if I wanted to start in safe mode or last good configuration, but would never startup. I ran diagnostics and I got error code 2000-0142. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. Upon looking up this code all I have found is that the harddrive failed. Is this true? It is a new hdd, and nothing happened to it, or the last one for that matter. Could something internally be causing my harddrives to fail? HDDs don't like being jolted and because they contain electric motors they also don't like fluctuations in their power supply. It is not quite clear how (or indeed if) both your original and the current drive have completely failed. The current drive might have errors on it but you wouldn't even get the options to boot into safe mode etc if no access at all to the windows pa

Oh oh… got the dreaded Blue Screen of Death and Dell's infamous "Code 2000-0142" on my Dell Studio 17 Laptop. Diagnostics says my hard-drive has failed. The message is something like "harddrive 0 - self test unsuccessful = status 79″ UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME". Instead of automatically replacing the HD, I Googled the error message and found this (below) at www.pcguide.com (here's the original thread) This is what I did after piecing together snippets of info from multiple websites and hours of frustration.
