Computer Peripherals How to Fix DVR Bad Disc Errors How to Fix DVR Bad Disc Errors By Greyson Ferguson eHow Contributor Greyson Ferguson Follow Pin Share Tweet Share Email Save hard drive interior image by Curtis http://www.ehow.com/how_6692393_fix-dvr-bad-disc-errors.html Sorrentino from Fotolia.com Digital video recorders have built-in hard drives that allow users http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23091794-DVR-DVR-error-message-disk-error-unrecoverable-write-error to record programming from their television and store the data for as long as they choose. If you are encountering a "Bad Disc Error" when attempting to record content, it means that the hard drive is either failing or the drive lens is dirty. You have two options available to correct the issue: clean off the lens, or connect an hard drive external hard drive to the DVR. Things You'll Need Compressed air Soft cloth External hard drive Wipe off the rear vent of the DVR with a clean cloth to remove any dust and debris stuck to the DVR. Position your can of compressed air into the vent you just cleaned. Spray a few shots of compressed air. This should be enough to remove any debris stuck to the laser or lens. Boot up the DVR dvr hard drive and wait to see if you receive the bad disc error again. If the error still occurs, you need to connect the external hard drive as the current drive is failing. Plug the eSATA cable into the external hard drive (check to see if the hard drive has an eSATA cable connection before purchasing the hard drive) and insert the opposite end of the cable into the eSATA port on the DVR. Once you power the DVR back on, all of the information and programming automatically saves directly onto the newly connected external hard drive.
