the point of causing hardware problems, it still could contain bad sectors that might cause issues when moving data from it to a new hard drive. There are a few great products that I rely on to clone a hard drive. clone hard drive with bad sectors I love Acronis True Image because its fast and efficient and seems to do the job most how to clone a failing hard drive windows 7 of the time. However, Acronis will fail to clone a drive when it encounters bad sectors. Generally it will just stop completely. So, we have to clonezilla bad sectors look at other options. Norton Ghost seems to have similar issues with bad sectors, as well as Paragon Drive Backup and even Macrium Reflect has some issues. The only drive cloning software that has ALWAYS worked when presented with bad sectors is an

open source program called CloneZilla. The CloneZilla Live version allows you to create a bootable CD that you can boot the computer that has the old hard drive and the new hard drive. Clonezilla will then make an exact duplicate of the old hard drive to the new hard drive. Afterwards, you can detach the old drive and boot the computer. Whenever I have an issue where I need to clone a drive containing bad sectors, I rely on CloneZilla to do the job. For more step by linux ddrescue step examples of how to use CloneZilla and screenshots of the program, please refer to the CloneZilla Guide. One of the common questions I get is "Will Cloning Software copy the bad sectors to the other drive?"Because a bad sector is physically a bad spot on the hard drive that causes the computer to not be able to read or save data to that spot, there is no way to copy the bad spot to another drive. Only the data that can be read and accessed from the old hard drive will be able to be copied to the new drive. Physical errors on an old drive cannot be transferred to the new drive. getting desperate! jupe2013-08-07, 11:46 AMHi guys! So I thought to try what's Kali like in use, been using Backtrack 5 for a while now. I have tried different methods and https://forums.kali.org/archive/index.php/t-18242.html checked different things why I just can't install Kali. The problem is, everytime I try to install Kali the installation progress stops while copying files to hard drive! The strange thing is that the installation http://www.howtogeek.com/57442/how-to-backup-and-resurrect-a-dead-or-dying-system-disk-with-clonezilla/ always stops when the process is excatly at 50% of copying files to the hard drive. Just to be clear, I had Backtrack 5v3 installed on that same hard drive before I started to install Kali, hard drive but I dunno if it makes any difference. Methods I have tried so far: - Burning the ISO file to two different DVD disks (with two different programs also), no luck. - Making a bootable USB stick from the ISO file (still freezes at 50% just like with DVD's). - Checked the hard drive with Partition Wizard, removing all the partitions and creating them again with different file systems many times (this failing hard drive software was suggested at other forums for cases like I have). - Tried to wipe all the sectors with Partition Wizard (writing 0-1 sectors to the whole hard drive). - Checked out that there should be nothing wrong with the hard drive (guess it checks for bad sectors...?). Anyway it gave me zero "red" pieces, only green ones after running it for a long time, whatever operation that is. - Tried to start the installation from live DVD. Hmm, might have tried some other methods too and use the Google as much as it just can help but I found nothing. I lost my sleeps last night because I just tried all the different methods since I really want to get Kali installed! Something says me it must have something to do with my hard drive (500Gb on the machine I tried to install Kali), but it worked perfectly fine with Backtrack installed on it at the very same day yesterday so dunno what could have broken it or anything. And it's always the 50% of installation when it says there's an error copying the rest of the files to the hard drive. I'm kinda running out of ideas myself, so please if somebody wiser could have some more suggestions for

In the event of tragic hardware failure, a backup image or completely cloned disk can save you from loads of worry, and get you back on your feet effortlessly. Get in the spirit of the day—keep reading to see how to resurrect that machine with bootable copy of your OS. What You’ll Need to Clone Your Disk A copy of Clonezilla Live CD or a CD-R to burn it on. If you find CD-Rs old fashioned, you can also put the Live Environment on a USB flash drive. You can go directly and download Clonezilla now, or jump ahead to the directions for which version to download and burn. If you’ve ever heard of Norton Ghost, Clonezilla is an excellent, feature rich alternative available for free download. Clonezilla can copy data, partitions, bootloaders, and system information—creating a copy so accurate your computer won't know the cloned disk from the original. A spare internal hard disk to clone your existing system disk on. One of Clonezilla’s listed “Limitations” is that the target disk must be equal size or larger than the source, so make sure that the drive (or partition) you’re cloning is smaller than the drive you’re cloning it to. Make sure your spare disk is one you can install in your computer before cloning, or you’ll find yourself cloning it again and again, which can be time consuming. Don’t bother formatting the drive, either, as Clonezilla will retain the formats and partitions of any drive you clone. An external USB hard drive enclosure to use to write your disk clone to. You can work from one internally installed drive to another, but this involves a lot opening up your machine and installing a second drive, when a USB enclosure does it in seconds. (Author’s note: USB HDD enclosures have saved me from more that one mishap, including one with a drive that only started up one time out of twenty. The enclosure made it much easier to restart, restart, restart and then clone the disk. I would recommend every geek own one!) In addition to this, you’ll need a working PC capable of booting from your optical (DVD & CD)
