I have a 1.5 TB HDD and a 320 GB HDD and was wondering what raid configuration, if any i should put them on when i have everything backed up to my computer. (Getting some odd little bugs, want to remove some software, just want to make it all clean and fresh with a new format on the drives, new firmware, etc) __________________ Here I am: here I remain Video Card Overheating Prevention Tutorial #2 (permalink) June 24, 2009, 08:16 PM 3.0charlie 3.0 "I kill SR2's" Charlie Join Date: May 2007 Location: Laval, QC Posts: 9,798 My System Specs The 323 works great in Raid 1, but has a max. of 1 Tb. __________________ Hydro-Quebec is salivating... #3 (permalink) June 24, 2009, 08:19 PM Arinoth Moderator Join Date: May 2009 Location: Halifax Posts: 8,981 Hmm that seems a little counter productive then for me since i want to get the most out of my 2 drives, though i've never really dived into raid at all and don't know if going raid 0 will be fine instead of raid 1. Or if raid 1 will still give me some benefits, lol out of my league here with raid and the dns 323 I did however enable jumbo frames and noticed that i am transferring faster from the DNS-323 to my computer for the back up (have a gigabit switch everything is hooked up to). Don't know why i never did to begin with. __________________ Here I am: here I remain Video Card Overheating Prevention Tutorial #4 (permalink) June 24, 2009, 08:23 PM 3.0charlie 3.0 "I kill SR2's" Charlie Join Date: May 2007 Location: Laval, QC Posts: 9,798 My System Specs Start here: start - DNS323Wiki, then here: DSM-G600, DNS-323 and TS-I300 Hack Forum / DNS-323/321 Discussion. I swapped on of the drives for another one but when the DNS-323 tries to format the other drive it stops at 1% giving me the following error: "Hard Drive(s) Formatting Failure. (Error Code:107)."Any idéas? I'm running FFP 0.5I've also connected the HD to my computer http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=5831 and erased any old partition. I've also tried another HD.. still the same error. Hope anyone can help. Thanks Bjorn Offline #22010-10-02 12:45:29 bodbod Member Registered: 2007-11-22 Posts: 109 Re: Error code:107 when formatting new hd in Raid1 Hi flamm, you need to delete ffp before doing the re-configuration of your disks, I have encountered the same issue previously. The reason is that ffp runs applications behind and some files are in use and locked, therefore the transfer of files or/and format can't be processed correctly, then you have this error. Google+ Followers upgrading my dns-323 to 2 X 2 TB II - format After a few attempts which ended in failure, I managed to format my 2 x 2TB 4k Western Digital drives. Now that it's done, it seems incredibly simple. It is also "sticky", meaning it does not need to be performed on each reboot (DUH!). As explained in the first part, it makes far more sense to use 2 separate drives as opposed to JBOD, RAID 0 or RAID 1. However, if you are keen on using RAID, I included a guide at the end, courtesy of dmcwai. In summary, I will be formatting the drives with the DNS-323 utility, install funplug, root it, install the functional fdisk, telnet into the box,I followed this step-by-step procedure:1. Label the drives, then install them; access the web interface and format. I had already upgraded to the latest firmware (1.08), but if you have not, consider doing so after format is complete.2. Download and install funplug. Go to the URL in the image (also linked below, in sources), then
