Do you have DCC or is it still in warranty? If not, you can get it repaired. Is it a rental or owned unit?If rental.. you can take in, and exchange for a new PVR. A purchased.. you can look at some of the options of replacing the drive yourself.. or look at buying a new unit. try and get it working… Firstly, check that the power supply you are using is correct. If your DVR came in a kit with cameras; it should come http://support.swann.com/customer/portal/articles/1785229-dvr4-alert---hdd-fail with 2 or more power supplies (a/c adapters). Sometimes customers will use the camera power supply to power the DVR, this will cause the HDD to not be detected. The correct power http://www.humaxdigital.com/me/pvr.php supply for the DVR-4-Alert should read "12V - 3.0A" netxt to "Output" on the A/C adapter. Try also, connecting the DVR to a DIFFERENT outlet somewhere else in your home. Connect it hard drive directly to the socket in the wall without the use of any adapters or power-boards. If the HDD still fails, you may need to open the case of the DVR to check that all the cables are correctly connected to the HDD. Unplug the DVR from power, unscrew the necessary screws, and remove the casing of the DVR. Unplug the 2 cables from the dvr hard drive back of the HDD, and check that all the pins are intact and not broken or bent. Check that the jumper settings on the hard-drive (located between the 2 cables) are set to MASTER. Instructions for setting to MASTER are located on the top of the HDD on the information. Now reconnect both cables firmly into the back of the HDD. Place the case back on the DVR and plug the power cable back into the DVR. The HDD should now be detected and work normally. If the DVR is no longer under warranty, replacing the internal hard-drive may fix the problem… You will need to get a Parallel ATA hard-drive, which is 250 GB or less in capacity.
