I built this system so it works with HDCP, and in fact I have been able to watch tv and bluray before with this same computer. However, I suddenly started getting an "HDCP Support Required" error from WMC. The entire message is as follows: HDCP Support Required High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) may not be supported by the current video card. Use an http://superuser.com/questions/471918/how-to-diagnose-and-solve-an-erratic-hdcp-support-required HDCP-compliant display, video card, and video driver. Or, connect using an analog connection such as component or VGA. Relevant specs are: CPU: Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770 Motherboard: Asus P8H77-I Memory: 16GB DDR3-1600 Graphics: Radeon HD 7850 (Driver by AMD, version 8.982.0.0 built on 2012/07/27) Display: Acer P243w connected by HDMI Sound: Roland Quad-Capture (It complains even when I use the bundled VIA HD Audio) TV Tuner: I-O Data GV-MC7/HZ3 OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1, Windows Update enabled. All patched and up to date. As you can see, there is nothing weird or old about my setup. I am also not doing anything strange, not doing any overclocking, weird system changes and so on. One thing that does happen from time to time, is that the display goes black for a few seconds (sometimes when watching media contents, sometimes when just using photoshop or Visual Studio). This happened with my previous setup as well, so I'd be inclined to think it is a display or cable issue (apart from the BD drive, these are the only things I kept from my previous setup to this one). But being a digital transfer, as far as I know, these things either work or not. Never erratically or with decreased quality. The thing is that sometimes I can watch the TV, sometimes not. This happens with recorded programs as well, so it's not a per-program thing. Sometimes r

How can I fix the HDCP error? I'm getting an HDCP error on my Apple TV or HDCP Error message displays on TV. HDCP errors generally indicate a problem with the physical connection or communication between your device and hdcp error TV. HDCP error can occurs when you play unprotected content on Xbox One. If your HD TV displays an “HDCP Error” message, this caused by the TV and source device not communicating correctly. Please review the following steps to resolve the issue: What is a HDCP error? Here is a real life situation that happened that could happen to you. You just bought a Blu-ray Disc Player and connected it to your older HDTV with a hdcp error hbo HDMI cable. When you tried playing a Blu-ray disc a HDCP error was shown on the screen. The movie wouldn't play. This is a known issue with HDCP, and it's one of the biggest hassles consumers will have to deal with when utilizing a HDMI cable on their HDTV. You will get a HDCP error if you try watching HDCP encoded content when using a HDMI cable. The problem is that if HDCP exists anywhere in the video stream then all devices and cables accessing this content must be HDCP compliant. If one device or cable isn't HDCP compliant then you get a HDCP error How HDCP Breaks Your HDTV and How to Fix It Unbeknownst to most consumers there’s an anti-piracy protocol built right into the HDMI cable standard. Not only does it have a poor track record when it comes to piracy prevention it outright breaks the viewing experience for many people. Read on as we explain how it works, why it breaks your TV, and how you can fix it. HDCP: DRM for the HDMI Age Digital Rights Management (DRM) protocols are protocols designed to protect content creators and distributors against piracy. Different companies and industries use different protocols, but the basic premise is the same. The DRM generally performs one of two tasks (or both) to prevent piracy: it locks purchases
into a PowerDVD could not read a file on this disc. error on Windows 8.1 Pro x64. The same disc wouldn't play on Corel WinDVD Pro either. Shutting down the guest OS I had running in VMware Player Free and then closing the latter fixed the issue. I conclude from this that Blu-ray playback doesn't work if anything virtualization related is enabled or running at the same time. This is probably due to copy protection requiring the player to lock the Blu-ray drive for exclusive access to the player, which may be problematic with VMs. TL, DR: if you want Blu-ray playback, forget virtualization on the playback PC. Period. Few things are more frustrating when high end technology you paid for suddenly fails you after working previously. This happened to me earlier today when I tried to play a Blockbuster The Pacific Disc 2 Blu-ray on my PC, only to be greeted by the following error: Playback stopped because your graphics card driver is incompatible. Make sure it meets the minimum requirements. You can find additional information on the CyberLink FAW web site (code-0012). Since I had the latest AMD Catalyst drivers installed - and you should too - this message made no sense. Running Cyberlink's BD & 3D Advisor* utility as suggested produced this shocking output: Yep, that's a nearly 2 year old graphics card showing up as "Unknown." I had a small nervous breakdown on seeing this. Oh yeah, that's my Radeon HD 7870 showing up as "Unknown," despite having been released in early 2012. So what's going on here and how do you fix it? Turns out there are two solutions to this problem, one of them free, the other quite expensive (we're talking triple digits here). I'll go through the free option first (thanks to Saba at CyberLink tech support): Solution 1 (FREE as in beer): disable Hyper-V This solution is "free" because you already have PowerDVD and don't need to pay for anything else. I guess Hyper-V breaks HDCP? The more you know … On the desktop, hold down Windows key + X. Click Control Panel. In the View by: drop down menu, select anything other than Category. Click Programs and Features. Click Turn Windows features on or off. In the window that pops up afterwards, uncheck the parent entry for Hyper-V. Click OK. Windows will prompt you to reboot, after which it will reboot twice before dumping you back at the log in screen. Log in and you should be able to play Blu-rays on PowerDVD again as before. If you use Hyper-V a lot, the above solution might be annoying or distasteful for you, though. That's where Solution
