The machine is put through the startup sequence with the carriage moving over to the right and returning to the left before starting to search for the encoder - a white mark on the platen roller. It keeps searching but is obviously missing it which indicates the sensor is not working correctly - it searches until it gives up and produces the error code. This indicates the carriage needs to be replaced. A similar error could occur on all 400 Series including the 430/450/455/488 Series. I have to repair the PC but the drivers were lost by my friend. Please Help :) THX! - Anonymous 1 I repeatedly get Paper jams with my 450c. Initially, it was only on good quality paper, but has gradually gotten worse so that it happens half the time even with inexpensive paper. Is there any fix for this? by Anonymous on Dec 8, 2003 at 6:56pm Add comment Please sign in to comment I noticed this problem on mine, because as the paper loads, the little star wheel hold-down arm which rolls the paper over the platton, has to pick up and the paper has to go UNDER it. Sometimes, because the paper is stiff and sticking UP, it does not go UNDER. (Hence, it happens more frequently with stiffer, more expensive paper.)To remedy, before feeding the paper in, try "pre-curling" slightly by placing ove
the carriage belt was completely shredded/destroyed. I replaced it, and put everything back together (with no leftover parts!). Now when I turn the plotter on, it cycles through http://fixyourownprinter.com/posts/55237 the Print Quality, Media Type, and Media Source lights in green three times, then all lights go off and the Error Group "Media" light comes on flashing orange. Nothing else happens - the carriage does not move, nothing whizzes or clicks, and none of the control panel buttons seem to do anything. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Respond to this 0 Is paper already loaded into the plotter?usually hp designjet the red media lite means to load paperor the paper alignment check has failedSometimes they are a pain to load-we have found that by following loading instructions in the book and on the last step if using roll paper allow a generous amount of slack when lining up RH edges with dotted line before lowering clamp you can usually get a green media lite.I have the complete procedure if hp designjet 450c you need it. by Scytex on Apr 2, 2008 at 1:51pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Make sure the blue handle on the right side is in the closed postion which I think is the up position. In other words it should not be sticking out. Also make sure the cover is closed. If you want to observe stick a wad of paper in the cover open switch opening on the left upper front side of the right hand cover. by dmzcompute on Apr 2, 2008 at 2:00pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Thanks for the reply. Roll paper is loaded, and aligned properly as far as I can tell. I had to do this manually, instead of the process that the users manual recommends, since the "Load Media" button does nothing to feed the paper in. I get the same results whether there is a roll attached, unattached, or whether paper is loaded or unloaded. Also, the blue handle is up and the cover switch is triggered so I can see what's going on. If anyone has other suggestions, or troubleshooting steps, I'm more than happy to follow them. Thanks again. by mattmeitzner on Apr
