"System Error: 86:01, 0X8010003": That is a Carriage-Axis shutdown. Solution 1: If this error code appeared but was not caused by a paper http://fix-your-printer.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-solve-system-error-8601.html jam, then try the following: Enter the Printer Information and check https://www.lpscomputer.com/blogs/news/85251649-designjet-500-800-error-86-01-at-right-end-of-plotter the Scan-Axis usage. If the percentage is close to 100%, then lubricate the Slider Rod (there is probably too much friction in the Slider Rod). Solution 2: The Carriage is bumping into the Service Station. If the carriage is stuck at the right hand side of the hp designjet Printer and cannot be moved out to the center of the Print Platen it is because the Service Station cannot uncap the Printheads. Replace the Service Station. Solution 3: Verify the Service Station Take out the service station and make sure it run through its full range of motion by rotating the motor spindle. Check for the rods, that hp designjet 500 holds the cleaners, to be not popped out. If yes: place the rod back into its socket and reinstall it back into the system. Solution 4: Verify the trailing cable There are two versions of this cable: the old one was two cables in parallel. Some times the cable will catch bad enough to shut the carriage axis down which is why it is stopping. The new Trailing Cable has two lighter communication cables but it also has a mylar support. Replace the Trailing Cable. The plotter got about 90+% complete printing the test plot on the gloss paper(image attached). The plotter did not cut the paper. Then it showed Error 86:01. I reviewed the job, your video and other videos trying to help with this error code. Things I’ve done. Lubricated the drive rod Removed and cleaned the cutter head. Its seems to move ok, but I don’t know how much resistance should be when sliding this part. The bushing moves smooth on the rod, but seems stiff once cutter is installed. Gone into the Service menu and performed paper feed check and that passes. Cleaned the Encoder tape/ribbon with soft cloth. Vacuumed out the service bay area. When I plug the unit into power this is what happens. (note, I have sent a video via wetransfer.com showing the startup) Carriage travels to left and touches the cutter. The cutter is not pulled out. Carriage returns to the service bay and then backs out to left. The service bay performs some type of cycle. The carriage then returns to service bay and error code appears. Can you provide any guidance as to what might be causing this error? A couple of things to look at… First of all the calibration plot looks normal. The plotter has to be pretty healthy to get that far. The most probable cause is that the right side encoder strip bracket is not installed correctly. The encoder strip is attached to a piece of spring steel. The steel has a hole in it and that hole needs to be over a peg in the black plastic. Otherwise, the encoder strip will touch the encoder sensor in the carriage when it moves to the right side and have a difficult
