a firmware error code. I have gone onto the HP website and upgraded the firmware but the problem still persists. If anyone out there has any suggestions they will be gratefully received. If it is remove it with the power off and then connect the plotter using parallel or usb and see if you get the same problem. Also are you trying to print the same item each time or different items. It is always possible the item you are trying to print has an issue. Another thing to hp designjet try is if you have the hp driver loaded go to the services tab and then click on the troubleshooting icon and then check the box to print the item as a bitmap (process in the computer) and see what happens. by dmzcompute on Oct 16, 2008 at 5:24am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Very common problem this is a typical firmware issue for this machine having to do with certain data codes. Unplug hp designjet 500 any communication cable turn off then back on and check the firmware version Hp has issued several upgrades to this units firmware to fix several issues this happens to be one of them the lastest is like "3. something". Its becoming harder to find on there site but if you can get to the designjet support part and look up the 500-800 designjet of it you will be able to download and update your firmware. Very easy to do just follow the instructions and never turn the machine off in the middle of doing it. by nivek on Oct 18, 2008 at 7:53am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 sorry about the last comment I had the same issue with another company and I had updated the firmware once and went back and found a better version. so do make sure that you updated the latest version. Also check the length of your printer cable if using one and make sure its IEEE compliant. been a work horse for me. That said, I am getting some error codes. So I got the 61:05 error code...did a print head check and came back that I had a bad black print head....so thats ordered and hoping that will fix this code. I also got a 79:04 error code and have no idea what this could be.....something about "Firmware Error"....went through the troubleshooting steps and cant get anywhere. Barber02-04-2011, 03:41 PMSystem error 79:04 "Firmware Error", indicates the HP Designjet 800 or 500 series printer experienced an unexpected error and could not continue. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the problem. Troubleshooting HP Designjet 800 and 500 series printer functionality Turn off and turn on the HP Designjet 800 and 500 series printer. If the error persists, go to Step 3. Send a test print from the printer driver. If it prints successfully, go to software troubleshooting . If it is unsuccessful, proceed to Step 3. Turn off the HP Designjet 800 and 500 series printer and disconnect the parallel cable and any network cables, leaving only the power cable connected. Turn the HP Designjet 800 and 500 series printer on and send the Troubleshooting Print from the Ink System menu of the front panel. If the Troubleshooting Test Print is successful, go to troubleshooting connection . If the error reappears when performing the Troubleshooting Print, there may be a hardware problem with the printer. Remove any additional memory. Send the Troubleshooting Print. CAUTION: Before handling a memory module, HP Jetdirect or accessory card, put on a grounding wrist strap and attach the end to the metal chassis of the printer. If a wrist strap is not available, touch the outer metal surface of the printer with your hand. Otherwise, static electricity from your body could cause damage. Remove the HP Jetdirect card if installed. Send the Troubleshooting Print. Remove the HP-GL/2 Accessory card if installed. Send the Troubleshooting Print. Check for a new release of the firmware and upgrade to the latest version if needed. If the error persists, press the MENU button
